L
Mow, tropic winds, ocr hill and dale,
]>y garish day and moonlight pale :
Blow true, blow strong
And bear along.
•A kiss to her I love.
Go seek her out 'neath Northern skies,
As Peris, lost,sought Paradise,
And there upon her balmy mouth
I ’ress down thy freight from Sunny South,
Ip. soft repose,
As on the rose
Steeps dew from 1 fcftVen above.
11.
Go whisper bo her waiting ear
Os warring hope and treacherotas seas,
Which spurn control,
And rack the soul
Os one bound in her spells:
Touch then, as with magician's wand,
The rosy palm of her fair hand,
Until her heart glows all aflame
And thrills to answer whence it came,
In rapturous bliss,
The freighted kiss,
Which on thy bosom swells.
111.
Mow, tropic winds, both day and night,
By rugged mount and river bright,
Through lonely glen,
O'er haunts of men,
Nor pause nor lag behind.
A fate is borne upon thy wings
Worth ransom of a thousand kings,
A soul that bows, her veriest slave,
In ardent life or silent grave,
All this, all this
Is in the kiss,
I trust to thee, 0 Wind.

A good story is told of the recent
excellent performance of Handel’s
Hessiak at the Broadway Baptist
Church. A farmer took his wife
to hear tlie grand music, so splendi
dly rendered on that occasion, and
after listening with apparent enjoy
ment the pair became suddenly
interested in one of the grand
choruses: “We all liko sheep, have
gone astray.”—First, a sharp soprano
voice exclaimed:
“We all, like sheep—”
Next a deep bass voice uttered j
in the most earnest tones:
“Wo all liko sheep—”
Then all the singers at one assert
ed:
"We all, liko sheep—”
“Dame’d if I do” exclaimed old
ttistieus to his partner. I like beef
and bacon, but I can’t bear sheep
meat!”
There was an audible titter in that
vicinity, but the splendid music at
tracted attention from the pair and
they quietley slipped out.
Thcndlß amd Love.— ‘They tell about a
blooming young widow ic Darby, who tised
to live next door to Mr. Smith, who whs a
widower and a timid man, whose mild eyes
hemmed blandly through his spectacles.—
This willow had a kindness for Smith, and
he reciprocated it: but he had hardly
enough ewrrage to carry on the campaign.
So at hist the widow pretended to be ter
ribly afraid of thunder and lightning, and
whenever she saw a gust coming up she
used to smooth her hair and rush into Mr-
Smith’s house. Then, when she heard a
peal of thunder, she wcttid scream and
rush up and throw her arms around the
neck of the mild-eyed Smith and implore
him to protect her, and Smith always said
he would. Then she would faint, and
Smith would be half glad and half sorry,
about six thunder storms settled the busi
ness. and now she is Mrs. Smith; and
Smith—he is only sorry that her appre
hensions of the lightuing were not realized
lie says if there ever was a woman who
ought to have been torn into pieces by elec
tricity, it is that widow. She has thunder
storms every day now in Smith’s house,
and its liveley and vigorous for Smith
around there.
