“Lit Ms Kish Jltu pun Him M-mu-.n."—The
Editor of the New Orleans Advocate has this In
olden t about the ravaged of the yellow fever in
that city, related to him by one of the Methodist
pastors:
“Thepreacher was nailed a low day* since to
attend toe Niwnfl of a young man. Before hi
sickness he was a stout, buoyant, manly youth.
He was from the .State of Maim', and bad boon 1
here buta short time. He was atMu-Ued by vcl
luw fever, and soon died, with no mother or rela
tives to watch by bis bedside, or to soothe him
with that sympathy which none but those o| our
own “dear kinrlml blood ’can fwi or manliest.-
He died among strangers and was buried by them.
When the funeral service was over, and the srrango
friend# wHPhad inlnisterod to him wore about to
Anally close the e>>ihu. an old lady, who stood by, I
slopped tliom and said, “Let tin- kiss him for his 1

“Lei me kiss him for his mother,'’
Oh ‘twill soothe her anguish’d heart
To know there wmk iuithr
To act a MothefN part.
Tho’no kindred eye wept o'er him
With grief's dcop laden sigh,
Nor the Mother who adnrad him
Had saen her lovod one die.
Yet, stranger eyes wnleUed o ar him
And wiped his death moist brow.
Oh could anxious heart* restore him,
He’d not bo sleeping uuxv.
With the winding sheet around him
In his narrow coffin'd bed
As sorrowing friends surround him
Kach heart with anguish bled.
To view their silent passive guest,
With impulse naught could smother,
One heart still nobler than the rest,
Now kissed him for hie mother.
Take comfort, oh, thou mourning one,
Take comfort in thy woe,
That gentle hands and skill hath done
Ail to avert this blow.
Than, upward turn to hcavon above
True comfort there you’ll lind.
The promise is the God of lore.
The broken heart wilt bind.

ScrofUla, or Evil,
i. a constitutional disease, a corruption of tke
blood, by ivhicK this fluid becomes vitiated,
weak, and poor. Being in the circulation, it
pervade* the who]*? body, and may burst out
m diseaHe on any jiart m it. No organ is I’ivi
from its attacks, nor Ls there one which
not destroy. The scrofufeus taint is variously
caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis
ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth
and filthy habits, the depressing rices, and,
above all, by the veneres! infection. What
ever be ita origin, it is hereditary in the con
stitution, descending ‘‘ from parents to children
unto the third and fourth generation indeed,
it seems to bo the rod of Him who says, “ I
will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon
their children. ’*
Its effects commence by deposition from the
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in
the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed
tubercles; iu the glands, swellings; and on
the surface, eruptions or sore*. This foul cor
ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses
the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitu
tions not only suffer from scrofulous com
plaints, but they have far less power to with
stand the attacks of other diseases; conse
quently, vast numbers perish bv disorders
which, although not scrofulous in their nature,
arc still rendered fatal by this taint in the
system. Most of the consumption which de
t imates the human family has its origin directly
in this scrofulous contamination; and many
destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain,
and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or
are aggravated bv the same cause.
One quarter of all our people are scrofulous;
their persons arc invaded by this lurking in
fection, and their health is undermined by it.
To cleanse it from the system we must renovate
the blood by an alterative medicine, and in
vigorate it by healthy food and exercise,
ftuch a medicine we supply in
AYER’S
Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla.
the most effectual remedy which the medical
skill of our times can ucvt#o for this every
where prevailing and fatal malady. It is com
bined from the most active remedial* that have
been discovered for the expurgation of tliis foul
disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the
system from its destructive consequence'-.
Hence it should be employed for the cure of
not only scrofula, but also those other affec -
tions which arise from it, such as Eruptivk
and Skin Disrasjbs, t*r. Anthony’s Firk,
Rose, or Reysifklas, Pimples, Pustules,
Blotcheh, Blains and Boils, Tumors, Titter
and Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Rtnowor*.
Rheumatism, Syphilitic and Mbrcuuial Dis
eases, Dropsy, Dyspepsia, Debility, and,
indeed, all Complaints arising from Vitia
ted or Impurr Blood. The popular belief
in “ impurity of the blood ” is founded in truth,
for scrofula is a degeneration of tbe blood. Thu
particular purpose and virtue es this Sarsapa
rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid,
without which sound health i* impossible in
contaminated constitutions.
Ayer’s Cathartic Pills,
FOR ALL TNI PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC,
ars so compoxed that disease within the range of
their action can rarely withstand or evade them
Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse,
and invigorate every portion of the human organ
ism, correcting its “diseased action, and reatorini’
ita healthy vitalities. Asa consequence of these
properties, the Invalid who is bowed down with
Earn or physical debility is astonished to fiud his
ealth or energy restored by a remedy at once so
simple and inviting.
Not only do they cure the 4*very-day complaints
of every body, but afeo many’ formidable ami
dangerous diseases. The agent below named is
pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac,
containing certificate* of their cures and directions
for their use in the following complaints: Costive
nee*, Heartburn , Headache arising from disordered
Stomach, Nausea, Indigestion, Vain in and Horb id
Inaction of the Bowels, Flatulency, Loss of Appe
tite, Jaundice, and other kindred complaints,
arising from a low state of the body or obstruction
of its functions.

FOR THE RAPII> CURE OP
Coughs, lolds, Influenza, Hoarseness
Croup, Bronchitis, Incipient Consump
tion, and for the relief of C'onsunipffx t*
Patients in advanced stages of the
disease.
So wide is the field of its usefulness and so nu
merous are the cases of its enres, that almost
every section of country abounds in persons pub
licly known, who have been restored from alarming
and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its
use. When once tried, its superiority over every
other medicine of its kind is too apparent to escapi*
observation, and where its viitues are known, the
public no longer hesitate what antidote to emntoy
for the distressing and dangerous affections of the
pulmonary organs that are incident to our climate,
while many inferior remedies thrust upon the
community have failed and been discarded, this
has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits
on the afflicted they can never forget, and pro
duced cures too numerous aud too remarkable to
be forgotten.
