Scorbutic diseases are tbe parent atock
from which ariee* a large proportion of the
fatal maladies that afflict mankind. They are as
it were a species of potato” rot in the human
constitution, which undermiues aud corrupts all
the sources of its vitality and hastens decay.—
They are the germ from which springs Consump
tion, Rheumatism, Heart disease, Liver Com
plaints, and Eruptive Diseases which will be re
cognized among those most fatal and destructive
to the races of men. So dreadful are its conse
quences to human life, that it is hardly possible
to over estimate the importance of an actual* re
liable remdy, that can sweep out this scrofulous
combination. We know then we shall proclaim
welcome new* to our readers, of one from such a
quarter as will leave little doubt of ita efficacy—
aud still more welcome, ‘when we assure them,
that it really does accomplish the end desired.
Wo uioau Ayer’s Sarsaparilla, and it is cer
tainly worthy the attention of those who are af
dieted with Scrofula or Scrofulous complaints.—

THE GREAT FAMILY PAPER.
THE GREAT-FAMILY PAPER.
THE GREAT FAMILY PAPER.
THE GREAT FAMILY PAPER.
THE GREAT FAMILY TAPER.
PROSPECTUS
OF
THE NEW YORK LEDGER.
A S au indication of tlio popularity of the Ledger
** we need ouly State the sample fact that its
circulation is larger thau that of any other TEN
literary papers in the country. Its great success
is owing to the tact that its proprietor secures the
best writers in the country, and spares no expense
in getting up the Best Family Paper—a paper of
high moral tone. The exalted reputation of its
contributors, the practical and invariably pure
and healthy character of all it* articles, the cure
which is taken that not evsn one offensive word
shull appear iu its coluiuus, and the superiority
of its Tales and Sketches, have gained for the
New York Ledger a position that uo literary pa
per has ever before reached. \V<* feel, always
have fait, since tbe Lodger attaiuod its immense
circulation, that a heavy responsibility re*ts up
on us, and have endeavored to discharge that
responsibility conscientiously, feeling coufideut
that ultimately wo should receive the thanks of
thousands and tens of thousands of families.
As to tho future, we arc at a loss what to say.
We prefer to perform rath’ r than to promise.—
W hat we have heretofore done is known to our
readers; they know what the Ledger lias been
and is now, and must therefore judge what it
will he hereafter. Ws can only say that among
the contributors u the Ledger arc
Edward Everett, Win. 0. Bryant,
Charles Dickens, Geo. 1* Morris.;
Paul Morphy. N. P. Willis,
Hnn. 11 J. Raymond, Anna Cora Kite hie,
Geo. D. Prentice, Fanny Fern,

Bluer eon lfeunett, Marion Harland,
W in. K. \\ aHu.ee, Alice Carey,
Carlos D: Stewart, Emtua A. Brown,
Col. W. B. Dunlap, Sailie M. Bryan,
md many eminent Lawyers, Clergymen, Prot'os
sors iu Colleges, and others, who write for the
Ledger anonymously; and thus our *>< >upiot r
---raflntaents are such that the current ox ponses of
the Led, >r. are now and will constantly be at
the rate of over three hundred thousand Jolla ™
per UMMhtn.
Facts like Ute*e carry with ihcm inure weight
than any , luiiucuts that, could he made, aud
•'mi meat - therefore will bo di-penacd with. As
we have already intimated, wc shall leave j-rom
'♦&!•/ to thus* w-ho prefer to expend their * force
in that way, and content ourselves with doing
what wo can to make the Ledger the most inter
esting and instructive family paper in the world.
The New York Ledger is published over Sat
