our Annual District Meeting held in Americas, I
thought, perhaps R few items in regard to it, and
other things, would be acceptable to a portion,
at least, of your readers.
The train leaving hero nl fl, after a pleasant
ride of tbree hours we readied oar destination
and found In store for us, a hearty welcome.
1*. was the writer's good fortune, dining our
qjoitni in A. to be entertained bv that gifted
and Christian gentleman. Iloii, T. M. Endow,
than whom, a inure affectionate father, devoted
friend, or accomplished scholar cun rarely he
found. One whose home, heart nut! purse, are
ever open, lo respond to tho 4 wants ot the
needy and suffering. He ha* a lovely place
nnd the beautiful lawn of several nous In front
is open to the public, on every Subbatb even
ing. where the elite and beauty of the city con
gregate to enjoy themselves.
With a moderate outlay of mom y the city of
Amerieu* could purchase this splendid properly,
and lit It up lor a public park.
The meeting was well attcudod throughout,
and the uniform testimony was, "I never enjoy
ed invsell better." The parlor* and delegates
from the various charge> reported nmmimousiy
their work in an encouraging condition. The

institutions. She boasts of oim female college in
a flourishing condition, five or six eliurulies, nnd
another in the course of erection. An excel
lent hotel, several large an 1 commodious fire
proof warehouses, where, I’ve been told some
22,000 hale*! cotton were* received In-tt season.
Her population wc understood (the counts just
finished being taken,) Is near six tbousiuid.
Evidences uf thrift nnd enterprise are vislblo
on every hand, new buildings are going up in
various |hu lions of the city nnd the old wooden
houses on the square are being replaced by hand
some nnd commodious brick tdructurw with
iron fronts. We also IcnrnoJ, that tin- citizens
Imd subscribed liberally to the finals being
raised, Tor the pai|aise of buiuding a public li
brary. Ami just lure Mr. Editor, can’t you
urge tipcjj onr people, through your valuable
pupi-r, the importance. I may say (lie necessity,
of such un institution in eair midst I Tho mind
repeclully of the young, wants relaxation from
(he various duties of tho day. And II we could
Ihrnish this in n place, where the young «>f both
sexes could meet, discuss tho events of the day,
ami have some pleasant -book to read, many
might tie drawn from the halls of Bacchus to
court the favor of the Muses.

in tin: town of Morgan. U’« very soon found

ever of each portion expressing a great anxiety
to have the road pais through their section.

them by the division of the South Western Rail
