Let it be rcmcmlicrcd that much of the present

The institution in question, (hough owned by

of hii opinion through your worthy paper.
Sir, in iny opinion Ibo prospecU for a cotton
crop weiM never mow gloouty, than they arc lor
18.19. In North Georgia, many funnem, (and
Mimb of the most extensive) have just finished
ploughing up nnd planting over Hieir entire
crops, rendering it Impovuble, ill consequence of
the short seasons in that aection, to realize a
yield of exceeding one-fourth or a crop. Olh-
etiI who did not plant their crops over, are rely
ing on about one-fourth, nnd one-half stands, and
that one-half nearly killed by (ho unfavorable
weather. So you will perceive the utter impos
sibility ot a half cotton crop In that scotion of
our State. To the above, an exception la found
in the plantation of Major W. II. Mntidcvill,
situated on the banks of the Cliuttalioochco,
near the quiet little town of Fort Unto", nnd
which I had tho pleasure of riding over ninl
scanning closely n few days since, ncconipanicd
by the Major, Col. Hardee, and others. 1 have
noticed tho crops of Early. Calhoun, Miller, and
Decatur counties far excel In size and good stands
tlioso of any other section through wuloli l have
pursed. 1 must allude to the mngnllicont oat
crop of Miller. I have never seen Getter oats
grown in any part ol this or any oilier ritate ; it
is fully equal to any North Georgia crop, and
agreeably sustains my opinion that H. IV. Geor
gia is, were its rosoutce* only developed, the
best country on the American continent. >Ve
cun and will, inside of ten years, grow on the
lands of H, W. Georgia, every article of produce
ill which there is any ••greens.” The country from

with them to use some kind of manures. .* It can
not lie other w {.-to, kIioiiIiJ tho good edict of (ho.-c

year iu slue of both cotton uud corn by the use
of only 200 pounds pi r acre, and 100 per cent
in stands of cotton. Therefore. I say to planters
you must use it on your land* if you make it
bay, or expect to be successful in procuring
builds in the future. And to make it pay lo (Is

Build the R.itnbrldgo. Cutlibert and Columbus

In the matter of common schools, the

This short experience is suAicient to
show that a system ol education, to bo

chine that cannot be "run" by ignorant
