Gmnt don't go rnuol) on wouiaii's rights, or rather on the short Jncket nncl “britch es*’ i«irt of tho arrangement, Judging from a message lie sent Mrs. Dr. Mnry Walker a few days ago. That female “plll-glvor," lrho dresses In frill Bloomer costnmo and carries a rat-tan stick, after repented ap plications for an audience with tho Presi dent, was iufunned that sha could not linro an interview with him until she ap peared In a dress becoming her sex. I'onr Children Elope nml Jfrtrrj-! Two twin sisters, aged fifteen, recently eloped together from Nnslivlllu with a pair of I wordless youths, and wero safely mar ried in Cincinnati. There are some beard less youths and young misses hereabouts that wo expect to ice elope pretty soon, as appearances clearly indicate Hint they have marry bn tho brain to an alarming extent. • Wo would ndvlso thoir mothers to look after them nt nnco, keep them at homo nt night, put them to bed, early, tuck thorn in comfortably, and piit n hot brick to their feet; nnd during tho day ad minister cnt-nlp tea and Godfrey’s cordial pretty freely. This worthy representative of the lladical party runs a nigger school down tliero, nnd when one of tho young Dinahs violates n rule of the school he makes her cook nnd wash for him ten days, ami in this way gets all of that work done. Cute carpet-bagger, that. Wegro oiflA-Ho.leery. Tho Now York Times, nu important Radical organ, complains that tho color ed applicants for office nt Wnshlngtou are constantly Increasing In numlxTjnml they importune for tho most prominent and lu crative places in the diplomatic, revenue nnd postal service. Wo are rejoiced that such Is the case. The Radicals told Cuf- fec tluil ho was as good os n white ronn (and he Is ns good or better thnn a Radi cal), and now let them make Uio most of his Importunities. What they go North For. The Radical Governors of the South spend half their timo in Washington and the North, manufacturing lies upon tho pcoplo of tho South for party purposes— telling them of “horrible outrages,’’ “in human cruelties,’’ etc., that never occur, and all ibr tlio infernal purpose ofprolong- ing the strife that has been going on for tho post four years, nnd also that the serows may lie tightened tho harder upon a de fenceless people; yet those iniserablo pnp- plcs think nothing of outraging law by pardoning every nssassln nnd murderer who happens to belong to their party, ns was dono In the enso or the notorious gu errilla nml outlaw, Long, who called a peaceable, worthy citizen from tho bosom of his fiunlly, and shot him down in cold blood; also, In tho ease of Murphy Owen; In North Carolina, another notorious out law, who was under sentence, for murder; nnd again In tho pardon'of tho three no gro murderers in South Carolina the oth er day. Theso wo donounce as outrages, “horrible outrages," nnd when perpetra ted "by Governors, it Is not to bo wonder ed at Hint Judge Lynch 1b occasionally, at tho South, rolled. upon to pass scntonco In nggravated cases. Honors to a Worthy noprosontatlve, Hon. Nelson Tift, the faithful and Inde fatigable Representative from tho 2d Dis trict of Georgia, to whom our pcoplo oivo a debt of lasting gratitude for his valuable services to the State In exposing Bullock’s meanness nnd duplicity before the Recon struction Committee nnd fur Ids untiring efforts to hnvo all our Representatives ad mitted to their seals, was honored with n public procession and serenade on his re turn to his homo iu Albany a few days ago. In acknowledging tho compUmcut, lio mado a short hut pointed Bpccch relative to Bullock’s diabolical scheme to ro-ostabUsh despotism iu Goorgin, In tho course of which he spoko of Grant In the following very fnvornblo terms:— * Mr. Grant Is an honest, earnest man, Tlie Tnriily-Mxtll. Tile COlh or April Is near at hand. Sa cred indeed to Southern hearts Is this sea son of solemn memories, which once, ns a thrilling reality, stirred tho great Confed erate heart to its profoundcst depths. Decorating tho graves of our Ihllen braves with flowers and leaves, dropping on those lowly mounds tho tear of regret, and breathing over them the prayer of faith—what emotion of tho heart Is more lovely or commendable? Wo trust our citizens nro propnrod to pay Hits tribute of respect to our noble dciul, who sleep In tho slindowy vale west of our City Cemetery. Tho day set apart for tills sadly brnutlftil nml Interesting ceremony is Monday next. Tho chilling winds nnd frosts of tho present Spring have checked vegetation to a considerable oxtent, nnd flowers nro rare, still some can bo found, and leaves, roeks, lltchons, mosses, ferns, otc., can he Interwoven Into many forms of beauty by willing nnd Ingenious hands. The rub bish, too, that has accumulated In the grave-ground, can bo cleared away nnd treos, shrubs nml flowers planted. Then, should no sculptured marble mark tho spot, the place would In the years to come assume an appearance benutiftd nnd choer- ftil, where waving lenvos nnd flowers will flourish, bright nml lovely testimonials of appreciated valor. The head-boards of many of tho graves have rotted off and fnllen to tho ground, and all tho others are much decayed, nad unless now ones nro put up, tho name of each sleeping hero will ere long be un known. We would, therefore, suggest Hint now boards ho crocted forthwith nnd the name of each sleeper, Ids company, regiment, etc., plainly pnltitcd thereon.— About llfl we understand 1ms been sub scribed for that purpose; but ns the amount is too small to pny for the work, wo earn estly hopo that every one, who has not al ready dono so, will freely nnd readily sub scribe something. 'Tis a duty we owe the heroic dead to beautify and keep up this hallowed spot, and all should feci it alike. Amounts for renowing the head boards can bo left nt the Citizen Office, or with Col. Hanks. Important to Lottor-Wrltcro ami Adver tisers. A Chicago cotemporary warns Us rend ers of a lhct not generally known, viz: that according to a recent change In tho regu lations of tho Fostoffice Department, no letters addressed to initials will bo dcliv,- ered nt any residence or In nny postoffice box. Tho man who addresses his commu nication to A B 0, box 10,001, may rest assured that his epistle wlU never be de posited In the box In question; but that, on the other hand, it will bo immediately and effectually destroyed. Georgia Colored Conference. We have bccu furnished, says tho Au gusta Press, with a copy of the minutes of tho Georgia Colored Conference of tho M. E. Church South, held iu that city in Jam unry. From theso wo condense tho facts and figures: Number of preachers and members in the several circuits, stations and missions of tho Conference—12,1 members and 01 preachers; infanta nnd ndults baptised during tho year—037 In fants, anil, nfl adults; number of Sundny schools, teachers and scholars—2!1 schools, lit teachers nnd 1,117 scholars. The next session of the Conference is to he held in Macon. None Worse I We frequently hear of Southern outlaw- ism, ku-klux outrages, nssasslnattons,'nnd the lord only Knows how many other spe cies of crime, through northern radical papers; but theso “pull-tho-bcnm-out-of- your-nelghbor’s-oyo’’ papers scarcely ever chronicle the numberless-diabolisms thnt arc daily occurlng all over their own “ troo- ly loll” section. Wife-whipping, murder, arson, seduction, parricide, infanticide, assassination, rope, and overy otlior crime known to the law, are as plentiful nt the north ns blackberries in August, nnd yet tho radical papers, as a general thing, are ns sllont as the grave upon the subject.— Those calculating, wltch-bumlng, negro worshipping puritans, nro so cold-hcnrted that the husbands nni wives live in a con: tlnual broil, beating cnoh other over tho heads with korosono lamps and stovo-lids, interspersed with a bat-water ducking, ns did an amiable couple up in Nnstachusetts tlic other day. A witty but true remark was that made: by Senator Sprague In presenting a peti tion for woman suffrugo: “As tlio voters of this country seem to linvo less to do with tho management of the Government than nny other class of people, thoro could bo no great harm in granting tho prayer of the petitioners,” i:ml or A Itcinnrliatila Criminal quo. Every such advertised schomo Is necessarily a swindle nnd false pretence. There daunt) nnd cannot tan gibly, exist any such.schemes iu this city. The Washington correspondent of the Now 1 ork Herald says that Grant wns not worth a cent nt tlio close of the wnr. In 18(15 ho bought a house In Washington city, nnd tho whole amount of tho purchase money (380,000) wns left on mortgage for a term of years. Mr. A. B. In reply to a note from tho citizens of Lynchburg, Virginia, tendering him a pub lic dinner, General Early writes: “I am constrained to decline the propos ed entertainment. Indoingso, I desire to express to you my most heartfelt thanks for the cordial greeting you have given mo, Individually nnd collectively, nmfto assure you thnt neither in wandering abroad, nor on my return, have I seen nny cause to abate In attachment to the land of my birth, or to waver in devotion to the principles which actuated us in our late struggle for nil that wns dear, “It Is tho hour of defeat and adversity that really tries tho hearts nnd bouIs of men, and tlioso who shall have passed through all Its temptations without nn abandonment of honor or principle will lie entitled in the end to be regarded as the true heroes of our cniisc. “Very truly and respectfully jours; Godey's Lady’s Book. Wo have not received Godey’a Lady’s . Book for May. This is ono of tho best and tho best friend the South has in a po-J publications of tho kind in tho country, sition to do her any good. Our pcoplo owe 1dm a dobt of gratitude, nnd if thoy continue to pursue their peaceful vocations, and to maintain and uphold tlio laws ns they have done done since tho Presldcu’t election, they will linve no causo to complain of his ad- ministmUon.” I Wo trust timo may prove that Mr, T. has not ovor-estimatad the President's friendship for tho South. We Jlenr or no Un-Klnx Outrages Now. When Congress Is In session the North ern Radical press teem with “horrlblo out rages” nnd “inhuman cruelties” nt tho South, put in circulation to Inflame the northern inlud nud givo them a pretext for keeping up their porsccutlous of our people; bat during its adjournment wo hear nothing of theso hdrrors—nil quiet, no assassinations, no ku-klux outrages published Iu their papers then. Tho world nevor before contained greater seouudrels than the devilish Radicals in aud out of Congress. They fool their lack of princi ple In everything, nnd to holster np and keep thoir flendtsh organization together, nnd make the incredulous north believe rad icalism is doing wanders for the country, they resort to every mean thing, even to down-right lyiug, In order to deceive tho people. ’Tis n wonder to us that such incarnate devils are permitted to live; but a just and terrible retribution will over take them sooner or later. A Prediction. A Western Radical Journal, speaking of President Grant’s nomination of negroes . .... , ., , . to office, says “the Republican party will »t«rt lht ' ir proposed gome, there will lie a merits through our columns, wo cannot understand why frlond Godey has thus unceremoniously given us the “go Ijy.” True. Don Piatt gives expression to some good things occasionally. Hero Is one of the most trutbftd paragraphs tlmt ho ever wrote: “Tho vilest copperhead I ever on countered is nn honest man by the side of Ben. Butler; tlio roughest rough of the democracy Is a gentleman by tho side of Chandler; audtlie Btupidestnes that bowls ’nigger’ nt tlic cross-roads Is a statesman by tho side of Pennsylvania Kelley,” German Trade with the Hontltcrn Stales. A Berlin letter, dated 20th lilt., says: “ At a late meeting held hero by tlio dry goods merchants, for tho purpose of dis cussing the advantage of reopening export trado to Louisiana nnd other Southern States, it wns unnulmously agreed that it would be of the highest importance to the products of German Industry. A commit tee was appointed to select a competent merchant, who, salaried and frirnished with nn assortment of samples, will pro ceed, May 1st, proximo, toNewOrlcnns.” A Religious War. The National Intelligencer prophecies that tho ultimate nim of Badlcalism is nu attack upon tho Irish nnd Germnn Catho lics iu this country. Of course, this would involve nil other nationalities of the same creed. Between a war for empire nnd a religious conflict, Wlmt will become of the “glorious Union,” tho “old flag" nnd the “Constitution?” When the Radicals The White House. Forney’s paper, tho Press, gives the fol lowing description of tho gewgaw concern tho White House has become with Grant: “ Tlio Executive .Mansion lias changed in appearance sinea taken possession of by tho now occupants. Mrs. Patterson wns a model housekeeper, nnd It remains tlio 8amcih tills respect, but it is changed, just ns a mnn looks dlfl'ereiit nml better when ho dons a military BUlt, and leaves off tho plain garb of the citizen. Tlio White House looks ns It had just nut on a pair of new epaulette, with everything to match; and if you should bo unfortunately strand ed In uny one of tho many rooms of this famous building, you would overy moment expect the fhmillar command: “Shoulder arms—right face: forward.marcb!” Even the policemen walk with a “military trend,” and put on nirs in perfect keeping with their high station.” llj-drnphobln* Tho following from tho Clarksville (Tcnn.) Tobacco Leaf suggests the propri ety of our municipal authorities taking precautionary measures oil tho dog ques tion: A dog, belonging to Dr. BUliugsly, of our city, was attacked on Monday hist with a nt of hydrophobia, and had to lie killed. Several days previous a little child of the Doctor was bitten by the same dog, though the dog had manifested no signs of this arendful dlscnso; since, however, it Is feared that the case may prove a serious one. This Is the second ease of recent date, nnd fears are entertained that it will be come common. Wo think It proper that our cltv authorities should toko steps to guard citizens ngalnst the danger of boing bitten by mad dogs. There are too ninny dogs in our city to be useful under any cir cumstances, nnd It lms beon suggested that a tux be levied on dogs as the best means of.gcttlng rid of a largo number of them. Another Brutal Ontrngo. From tho Amorlcus Courier of a recent date wo glean the facts of a most fiendish outrage in Marian county, by a negro, nt tho plantation of Mr. Allen, with whom there wns living a young lady of unsound mind. It seems that this young lady had gono to a spring some distance from tlic dwelling house on Fridny last, nnd while thoro, was attacked by a negro mnn, about twenty-ono years old, who lmd been em ployed by Mr. Allen a short time previ ously; who after well-nigh choking her to death brtitally outraged her person.
