“Men seldom think of the great event of

Death is Clio gent antagonist of life,

About ten o’clock in the morning tlio

and blacker, until about oleven tlio wind
roso into tlio will fury of a liurricnno,
sweeping everything bolero it. Tlio storm
enme at first trom tho Southeast, and then
veered rouud to tile West, and raged witli
terrific power. Tlio clouds seemed to fall
upon tlio ground, and to writhe and toss
like a whirlwind, nml although it raged
only a few minutes, it did very greatdam-
nge to our beautiful town. Fences were
brown down every where, scarcely a place
left witli perfect fencing—trees were up
rooted and thrown neross tlio sidewalks,
streets and houses—nnd several outhouses
wero entirely destroyed, while many oth
ers weyo grcntly injured. Several of our

Once upon a time, an accomplished

What was her consternation to sco the

Disintegration.
Speaking of recent divisions nnd disson-

doubt that a fooling more or less deep-seat
ed prevails that tho work of tlio Republi
