Mr. Cary, a rising young lawyor, whoso
evident talent and hfliihtc manners pre
dict for him a career of distinction.—
Sir. C. lias recently located in LaFny-
ette—is a native of South Carolina.
Our friend, Judge Milton Russell,
we were glad to find, was re-elected
Ordinary of that county. He seems to
bo a favorite with tho people. His ef
ficiency, intelligence nnd prompt dis
charge of duties, justly entitle him to
positions of trust and honor. Severe
indisposition has recently afflicted him;
but wo were gind to find him in a con-
alesecnt condition, nnd hope his im
paired health will soon bo fully restor
ed.
As tho evening waned, the last rays
of tlio sun lay like a golden glory over
tlio little town nnd its lovely surround
ings of forest nnd field, and the melan
choly moon arose with mellow light
when wc sank to sleep, dreaming of
tho morrow’s auspicious dawn. Alas
for tho fallacy of earthly hopes I Wo
were aroused in tho morning by n blast
of wind ngd of raiu, which caused us
to philosophize for a moment upon the
rapidity of atmospheric changes. Gol
den sunbeams and clear moonlight no
longer, but a wild, dismnl dny, with
black, ragged clouds and flying, shriek
ing winds, and great, copious dashes of
cold rain. *Our spirits sank almost to
zero, but were considerably elevated
after partaking of Mrs. Gordon’s de
lectable breakfast oT Lot coffee, light
biscuit, ham nnd eggs, &c.
Breakfast over, this hospitable lady
supplied us with un immenso wrapper
of fur, and enseoused under its ample
dimensions, wo made all speed towards
Ringgold, fouling dentention by high
water. Ugh! how the cold water dash
ed in our faces when the umbrella turn
od inside out. Hoiv dismal tlio conver
sation, only n single consolatory re
mark, when our young companion es
pied one other simpleton beside our
selves upon tlie blenk highway—“mis
ery loves company,” etc.- ,
Snell wind, such rain and such nar
row escapes from ducking, if notdrown-
ing, in swollen streams, may tho good
Lord deliver us in future.
Notlco to Colton Planters.
I have in my store, at Dalton, about
fifty bushels of extra Prolific Cotton
Seed, selected with groat care by my
self. My experience With them is that
it will pny any mail, who expects to
raise cotton, to procure some of them,
Tho demand being so great for them
South, I shall probnbly not bo able to
furnish nny more of them nt my store.
As to their prolific qualities, it is suf
ficient to sny that 1 raised twenty-five
bales of cotton on twenty, acres of
ground in 1872 from them.
