The mosquitoes remain here with re markable pertinacity. Their longevity Is unequalod this year. Tho Ckntlnnooga Times reports Impor tant changes ill the schedule of the \V. & A. trains soon, which will cause llm evening down passenger to nrrivo at this place at about 4:30 p. m. instead of 7:15 p. m. Tho north bound train will also arrlvo oarllor. Since tlra tormlnus of tho Selma road was changed, there has not bcon suoh a wholesale exodus of railroaders’ families from this place as was at first predicted. Many families soom to profor this health ful section uuil the social refinement to any other placo, Poradvcnturo our lit tle city Is uouo tho worso off for suoh a movement, and the time will yet eomo when this immediate vicinity “will blos som as the rose.” Says the Homo Tribune: Since tho Sel ma, ltome and Dalton railroad passed Into tho hands of tho E. T., V. & G. Hallroad Co., it has been improved nut tcrially, and if some improvements now in view arc made, it is destined In tho near future, to he one of tho best roads in tho South. The bridges are being re paired, masoiiry work put In tho trestles and tho bed of the rqad leveled. In the adjoining county of-Murray we learn one farmer, Mr. Amos Keith, made over eight bales off of six acres. His en tire yield of cotton will bo near 125 bales. Wo hear of other farmers in this county that have been equally as successful in cotton raising. Thoro is no healthier country on the globe than North Georgia, and no land anywhere that is susceptible of more varied cropping. It has beou ful ly demonstrated that cotton, wheat, corn, potatoes and vegetables of almost overy description, can be grown hero to great profit with tho rlghtsort of cultivation, and why any man should wish to oxchange thlsdellghtful section for tho'unheallhy, mi asmatic westorn stales, with their wretch ed water, tbolr yearly droughts at the very season when rain is most needed, and their countlesB myriads,of. grasshop pers, is something that wo cannot under stand. Those who contemplate taking such a step had. better stop ’and Weigh tho matter well. Would it not be a good Idea for our warehousemen and produce merchants to connect wagon yards with their business, and thus provide for the country folks when they come to town? MldSlo Geor gia is ahead of us in this respect, as near ly all the warehousemen and produce merchants in that section advertise free wagon yards for their customers. Sausage is In great demand and the fleam mill of Miller, Craig & Co., is kept running night nnd day. A brakeman on the W. & A. railroad wus knocked from the train and killed, near Atlanta, last week.
