Mrs. Ann J. Tatum, of Tren
ton, has filed suit against the
Georgia, Carolina and Northern
Railway Company for $25,000.
Mrs. Tatum is the widow of M.
A. B. Tatum of the revenue ser
vice. Mr. Tatum was a passenger
on the train on his way to Athens
from Elberton. The train stopped
over the trestle on the Oconee
river, and Mr. Tatum, thinking
this was the station, sought to
alight and was killed. His death
occurred in the night. The suit
sets up these facts, and further
says that the officers of the com
pany negligently announced the
station just as the train stopped,
thus inviting passengers to alight.
The night was dark and Mr. Tatum
had no chance to know where he
was.
