Next Tuesday. April 12th, at
* the Courthouse.
LARGE AUDIENCE WILL GREET HIM
The Brilliant Young Statesman and
Gubernatorial Candidate Will
Preach Democracy.
Hon. Spencer R. Atkinson, can
didate for the guliernatorial nomi
nation, will address the people of
Dalton, Whitfield and adjoining
counties next Tuesday, April 12th,
at the noon intermission of court.
The coining of Judge Atkinson,
to this city is an event which will
be hailed with delight by his sup
porters snd friends, and he will be
given a big hearing before the vo
ters of the county.
The ladies are especially invited
to tie present, and special seats
will be arranged for them within
the bar.
Judge Atkinson will preach a
sermon of pure Democracy and
economical State government, and
will prove himself more than wor
thy of the office to which he as
pires.
He is statesman, orator and
scholar, and his speech will be
well worth hearing.
Everybody, old and young, are
invited to be on hand.
Three weeks ago today The
Citizen said there would be no
war.
The Spanish fleet of torpedo
boats has reached Porto Rico just
1,200 miles from Key West, and
1041 from Havana, air line meas-
urment.
A SIGNIFICANT RESIGNATION.
Ex-congressman H. H. Carlton,
who has edited the Athens Daily
and Weekly Banner, has resigned.
He was the first to run up the
name of Allen D. Candler at the
masthead of his paper, and sup
ported him vigorously. He told
the boys emphatically that your
“ Uncle Allen ” was a fighter from
“ taw,” and would meet them at
Phillippi. But “Uncle Allen’' re
fused to come to the slaughter.
Carlton called upon him—implored
him by his past record to do so-
but Flem DuBignon wouldn’t let
him, and Carlton significantly re
signs. Mr. T. W. Reed will
henceforth conduct the Banner in
the interest of Judge Spencer
Atkinson, and Clarke county has
been put in his column. Is Dr.
Carlton disgusted ? Can it be he
wanted to get from under the ava
lanche of Atkinson votes ?

ple, if desired, without extra charge.
These Sleepers run through Texas,
Arizona and New Mexico, and connect
with similar cars for Oregon.

had from any Southern Railway ticket
agent, from Mr. A. J. Poston, General
