Uncle Dick Bazemore, as gal lant a confederate soldier as ever shouldered a musket and went to the front, presided over'the Joseph Johnson Camp C. S. Y. last Satur day in the absence of Commander B M. Thomas* A resolution was. passed posi tively prohibiting any politics or the discussion of same in the camp. Rules were suspended and eleven new members were elected. Miss May McAfee was elected,, sponsor and Miss Flora Lester Maid of Honor with Miss Bettie McKnight and Miss Mamie Ox ford alternates. As the two for mer can not leave their school duties, the two latter were given the credentials and went. Messrs. John H. Hill and J. L. Oxford were elected, delegates and left yesterday morning. Col. J. A. Glenn and J. L. Plemmons were elected alternates. The camp is now more flourish ing than ever in its history and more harmony and enthusiasm Will Be Observed in Dalton as Me morial Day. Female college. 7. Citizens on foot. 8. Citizens in vehicles. The marshals of the day are Dr. J. Glenn McAfee, Mr. Walter Davis, Mr. W. S. McCarty and Mr. H. P. Colvard. At the cemetery Rev. H. P. Fitch will open with prayer. Music by a choir under direction of Mrs. W. C. Martin. Master McLain Trot ter Robinson and tittle Miss Les- sie Flemister will give an appro priate recitation each. Music by choir. Prayer by Rev. W. T. Swaim. Decoration of graves. It is hoped that citizens will turn out en masse, and that the stores will be closed from four to six, or at least let every one of the force go that can possibly be spared. This is the one occasion that should be solemnized by a large attendance and appropriate cere monies. Wilson have moved out here from Dalton on account of their had health, and we are glad to say that they are rapidly improving. They will also visit rela tives in Savannah before their re turn. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Finley spent two days fishing out at Fillmore last week. They caught quite a number of fine eels and cats. Georgia’s handsome monument to the confederate soldier was ded icated with brilliant ceremonies at Chickamauga Park last Thursday. Hon. Gordon Lee, a member of the monument commission, ten dered the monument to Governor Allen D. Candler who received it with an eloquent and patriotic speech and was loudly and vocif erously applauded. - General H. V. Boylston, presi dent of the National Park com mission accepted it in behalf of the government in a well timed speech—short but impressive. The oration of the day was by Georgia’s brilliant and eloquent son Hon. J. C. O. Black of Au gusta. After the oration Col. George Napier, of the Governor’s staff, from Monroe, Georgia very appropiately and gracefully pre sented Mrs. Governor Candler a lovely pair of diamond link but tons from the members of the Governor’s staff.
