Mr. Edward Strickland, with
his family has moved to Dalton,
where he will engage in bush ess.
To Mr. Strickland is largely due
the splendid Cartersville cotton
market. When he entered the
cotton market the town was re
ceiving about 4,000 bales and it
is now receiving 1 1,000. He was
instrumental in organizing the
Bank of Cartersville, of which he
has been vice-president since its
start. He is in line with the
progress of our section, and Dal
ton can well afford to congratulate
herself on acquiring such a public
spirited and progressive citizen.—

Look at your tongue.
Is it coated ?
Then you have a bad
taste in your mouth every
morning. Your appetite
is poor, and food dis
tresses you. You have
frequent headaches and
are often dizzy. Your
stomach Is w$ak and
your bowels are always
constipated.
There’s an old and re
liable cure:
4
Don’t take a cathartic
dose and then stop. Bet-
ter taxe a laxative dose
each night, just enough to
cause one good free move
ment the day following.
You feel better the
very next day. Your
appetite returns, your
dyspepsia is cured, your
headaches pass away,
your tongue clears up,
your liver acts well, and
your bowels no longer
give you trouble.

He Keeps His Offer to Christian Scien-
, tists Still Open.
As there is nothing in Mr. Car
man s last letter calling for a re
ply, and as I do not wish to
trouble The Citizen with any fur
ther correspondence, X shall make
this letter as brief as possible.
When we remember that if
Christian Science is true, Chris
tianity is false, and the world has
been living for nineteen centuries
under the delusion of a false hope;
and if Christianity is true, Chris
tian Science is false a^id its fol
lowers are unsaved, the solemnity
nd importance of this subject
cannot be estimated.
It was a deep sense of this fact
that induced me to submit Chris
tian. Science to the only test by
which its claim can be established,
and the very test they claim as
their proof. The fact that after I
have granted all this system has
demanded, and met every-condi
tion required, notr a single one has
accepted the proposition, is proof
to every unprejudiced reader that,
when it comes to the test. Chris
tian Scientists themselves have no
faith either in their theory as a
science, or their power as religion
ists.
In view of the solemn import of
the question at issue, I never
dreamed that The Citizen editor
would allow it to be made the
subject of a burlesque. Certainly
the subject is too solemnly sacred
for that. For myself, I care noth
ing whatever. For my friends, I
care a great deal, and for the sac-
redness of the subject a hundred
times more. I assure my friends
that I will never again submit
ihem to the humiliation of read
ing such a burlesque on any cor
respondence of mine.
Iu closing, I wish to testify to
the excellent spirit and gentle
manly, dignified manner iu wliich
Mr., Carnfan has conducted his
•side of the controversy. Though
a stranger to me, he has my
personal., respect and most kindly
feeling.
The offer which I made
faith, in the same good
stand. Whenever a representa
tive Christian Scientist shall have
faith enough in his or her system
to accept it, the church building
will be i’urnished, the patients
pie ented, and the lrnme. forth
coming for every cure effected.
The End Came Quietly Last Wed
nesday Night.
Though not unexpected, the
death of Mrs. W N H. Prater last
Wednesday night came as a shock
to all of Dalton.
She had been ill for the past
year and her friends viewed her
decline with the greatest of sym
pathy and sorrow. Her immortal
soul winged its flight to God
quietly and peacefully.
As Miss Ruby Freeman, she
charmed a large circle of admirers
by her gentle disposition and sun
ny nature. She was woot-d and
won by Mr. W. H. Prater, and, as
his wife, drew many wn.rm person
al , friends to her already large
circle. As wife and mother, she
was an ideal one; as a neighbor,
there was none better.
Her funeral occurred from the
First Methodist church Friday
morning at ten, by Rev.- L. G.
Johnson. Her remains were taken
to Chattanooga for interment;
The pall bearers were: Messrs.
Sam Loveman, W. A. Black,
Julian McCamy, Frank DuBois,
C. A. Deakihs and J. C. Gleason.
A large concourse of friends went
to the train with the funeral
tege. Mesdames Betty Chambers
and Leila Monning, of Chatta
nooga, sisters of Mr. Prater, accom
panied the remains to their
resting place. Billie Prater has
the sympathy of every one in sad
affliction.
“Death lies on her, like an untimely

Deafness Cannot Be C tn'ed
by local applications, as they can
not reach (he diseased portion of
the ear. There is only one way
to cure deafness, and that is by
constitutional remedies. Deaf
ness is caused by an inflamed con
dition of the mucous lining of the
Eustachian Tube. When this
tube gets inflamed you hear a
rumbling sound or imperfect hear
ing, and when it is entirely closed
deafness is the result, and unless
the inflammation can be taken out
and this tube restored to its norm
al condition, hearing’ will be de
stroyed forever; nine cases out of
ten are caused by catairh, which
is nothing but an inflamed condi
tion of the mucous surfaces.
We will give One Hundred
Dollars for any case of deafness
—caused by catarrh—that cannot
be cured by Hall’s Cataarh Cure.
