BY CHARLES J. BAYNE.
In the mountains long ago,
Underneath the arching vine, ■
How she Btirred tbe pulsing currents
With her little hand in mine I
And in dreams she comes again,
Shy and sweet then she came—
I would write and tell her, only
I forget her married name.
Where the bounding billows rolled
Like the beating of my heart,
When we railed in rugged phrases
At our fate that we must part,
How she femininely swore
Death would find her still the same!-
I would write and tell her, only
I forget her married name.
Here are letters pink and pale,—
Pale and old, but their perfume,
Like a rising incense, Bweetens
All the corners of my room;
At the end of each a word
Quite the dearest pen could frame—
I would stud them to her, only
I forget her married name.
Why from this one drops a curl,
Soft as silk and bright as gold—
Quite as silken in its softness
As in golden days of old.
She should have it back, I know,
But I really fear the shame
Should it prove her brunette sister
Who took on a married name.

Miss Bryan has recently com
posed a two-step entitled “Cute, ’
which has been played before
German critics of music. Miss
Bryan is the youngest composer
of music in the state, and perhaps
in the South.
“Cute'’ first attracted the at
tention of a Mr. Wade, formerly
of Dalton, and he made Miss
Bryan the proposition to have it
published and copyrighted, which
was done, and it is now being pub
lished by Mr. L. D. Wade, Bowl
ing, Green, S. C. Several copies
have been bought in Dalton.
Miss Bryan will bring out a
second composition entitled The
New Woman.” Dalton has sev
eral celebrities the youngest of
which is possibly Miss Bryan.

Many shirtings resemble

Linens are ideal summer wear
in many ways.
Pleated shirts harmonize with
pleated skirts. Linens hold their
shape better than other fabrics.
Laces have no place on the
shirt waist pure and simple.
China silk shirts will be super
seded by those of linen and dimity.
Lawn is one of the ever useful
stuffs for the summer shirt waist.

UNDERSTOOD
Claims Many Thousands. A Tragedian's Thanks to Pe-ru-na.
In speaking of Peruna, Robert Down
ing, the famous tragedian, says:
“I find Peruna a preventative against
all sudden summer ills that swoop upon
one in changing climates and water. It
Is the finest traveling companion and
safeguard against malarial influences.
“You may notice that persons in poor
health always find the heat most intol
erable ; this I avoid by using Peruna. I
know by the thermometer that the
weather is ho,, yet I have felt the heat
less this summer than ever.
“The cooling action of Peruna on the
mucous membrane makes it invaluable
to actors and singers, as it does away
with that tendency to sadden hoarseness
so apt to overtake ons on emerging from
a hot
stage.
“To sum it up, Peruna has done me
more good than any tonic 1 have ever
taken.”—Robert Downing.
Dr. Hartman was the first physician
in the United States to accurately de
scribe systemic catarrh. His remedy
Peruna, the only systemic catarrh rem
edy yet devised, is now known all over
the civilized world. A person having
used it once can never be persuaded to
be without it when in need of such a
remedy.
