And In They Went.
“A penny for your thoughts,” he said,
As they walked down the street.
She paused a moment, then replied,
In manner coy and sweet,
As toward an ‘Ice Cream Soda’ sign
Her longing gaze she bent:
“My thoughts were, ‘Wonder if that man
Is going to spend a cent.’”
(And in they went.)

A Lovely Painting.
It was the pleasure of a Citi
zen editor this week to see a
splendid and life-like painting
from the brush of Miss Mattie
Lee Huff. The subject was
copied from an artistic calander
and describes, with true artistic
accuracy, a hoy nonchalantly and
characteristically, half reclining on
a side yard terrace, playing
mouth harp while, evidently his
younger brother, was patting a
tatoo to the tune, and a smaller
sister of the two, with half lifted
skirts, dancing a childish step.
The whole is done with such
true to-life art that one instinctive
ly desires to renew youth and join
the merriment. It brings to
memory all the careless, happy
days of childhood—the stubbed
toe tied up so naturally in a rag
that you can almost fancy you
inhale the ordor of the turpentine
medicinally employed. The
earnest glee on the childrens’
faces takes all the seriousness of
work-a-day life out of the obser
ver, and he longs for the barefoot
companionship of Whittier’s fa
mous lines. You go away from
the picture whistling “Sugar in
the Gourd” or “Billy in the Low
Ground” so forceably brought to
mind by the hoy and the mouth
harp. Miss Huff is an artist in
deed, and her subjects, so faith
fully reproduced and enlarged,

Atlanta, Ga., May 25—Grow

000 against Patrick Calhoun,
which was sued out seveial month*

M. Calhoun, Judge Lumpkin
Tuesday afternoon signed a tem
porary injunction, restraining the
Central Real Estate Company, in
which Pat Calhoun is a stockhold

either directly or indiiectly which
it may receive by virtue of a re
cent land sale, on which $93,742

possible.
The $50,000 attachment against
Pat Calhoun is based upon an
alleged debt which he owes to
Miss Margaret Calhoun. It was
sworn out on October 21, 1903,
and among other things covered
200 shares of stock which the
defendant held in the Central
Real Estate Company. The pe
tition praying for the injunction
alleges that Pat Calhoun is now
insolvent, so far as the plaintiff is
aware, save for the 200 shares of
Central Real Estate Company
stock. The petition recites that
although the company has been
inactive for some time the stock
is worth par, $100 per share.
