Sunday school was very wrll attend

Mr. E. W. Jones returned from Oak

Mr. Riley Jones and Mr. J. W. Black
attended the singing at Tilton Sunday,
and report a good time.
W. T. Hutcheson, Nicholson, Ga., had
_ severe attack of rheumatism. His

Rev. Mr. Gray, of Black Fox, Tenn.,
filled his regular appointment at the
Baptist church Saturday and Sunday.
. Our high school is progressing finely
under the management of Prof. Charles
Isbill, as principal.
After a service of many years, J. H.
Bridges has resigned as superintendent
of the Baptist Sunday school. Prof.
Isbill has been chosen to take his
place.
Protracted meeting commences next
Sunday at Mt. Olive church.
Mr. G. M. Tatum, the champion bean
raiser, hauled sixty bushels of beans
to Chattanooga.

Rev. Jim Austin delivered an inter
esting sermon at the Baptist church
Sunday. The church called Brother
Austin to be the pastor another year,
and he accepted. His many friends
will be glad to have him among them
another year.
The singing at the Baptist church
Sunday afternoon was a great suc
cess. The leaders were Profs. Young
and Scott Parker. Mr. Arthur Black,
of Sugar Valley, and Dr. J. M. King
added much to the singing with their
excellent bass voices. The visitors
Sunday afternon were from River Bend,
Carbondale, Hill City, Sugar Valley,
Dalton and Oakman.
‘Peace Day” was observed at both
churches Sunday.
Prayer services at the Methodist
church Sunday evening were well at
tended.
Mr. Lilbern King, of Atlanta^ is
visiting homefolk.
Misses Genevie Gentle and Annie
Nesbitt and. Dr. E. M. Townsend expect
to attend the Murray county fair Fri
day.
Messrs. Samuel and Dennis Maynard,
of Chattanooga, accompanied by Mr.
and Mrs. Craven and daughter, Eliza
beth, all of Chattanooga, visited Mr.
Bob Maynard and family last Sunday.
Mrs. Mae Morris, of Atlanta, is visit
ing homefolk here at this writing.
Mrs. Jennie Kiker and children, of
Calhoun, are expected to visit, at the
Tate House this week.
Misses Belle and Mary Adams spent
several days last week very pleasantly
in Kennesaw and Atlanta.
Misses Robbie Bailey and Jennie
Stevens and Messrs. Fred Parker and
Jim Coker were appointed Sunday
afternoon as delegates to go to the
convention at Dawnville next Sunday,
October 11th.
Mr. Alfred Cox has returned from
Birmingham, and is stopping at the
Tate House.
Rev. Nelson Hinesley went to Car
bondale Saturday afternoon to be in
readiness for his appointment there
Sunday.
Misses Lucile Hogan and Genevie
Gentle received a nice gold watch each
for their excellent work in the trade
extension contest of the Barker Fur
niture store.
The new cotton gin at this place is
doing excellent work.
Mr. Smith, of Riverbend, is con
templating moving Ms family to this
place. We would be glad to welcome
them.
Rev. Nelson Hinesley expects to be
gin a series of meetings at the Method
ist church here Sunday, October 25.
The Young People’s Aid Society met
with Miss Genevie Gentle Wednesday
evening, September 23. A very inter
esting program was carried out by sev
eral of the members. After the pro
gram delicious ice cream and cake were
served in the dining room, wMeh was
decorated in beautiful cut flowers and
ferns. One new member was received.
The society is improving and the
meetings becoming more interesting. It
was decided that the society would
meet with Mr. Baxter Thomas next
Wednesday evening. An interesting
program has been arranged. We hope
each one will do their very best.
Mrs. N. G. Harris has returned from
a pleasant visit to relatives in Rome.
Miss Myrtle King, of this place, was
married to Mr. E. N. Johnson, of Plain-
ville, last Saturday at Hill City.
Mrs. Johnson had been visiting in
Hill city the past week.
Miss Myrtle Nesbitt, of this place,
was married to Mr. Will Porch, of
Oakman, while visiting at that place
several days ago.
