THE DALTON CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MAY 12, 1921.
F ar mer s—Attention
“When every farmer in the South shall
eat bread from his own fields and meat
from his own pastures; and, disturbed
by no creditor, and enslaved by no debt,
shall sit among his teeming gardens,
and orchards, and vineyards, and dai
ries, and barnyards, pitching his crops
to his own wisdom and growing them in
independence; making cotton his clean
surplus, and selling it in his own time,
and in his chosen market, and not a
master’s bidding—getting his pay in
cash and not in a receipted mortgage
that discharges his debt, but does not
restore his freedom — then shall be
breaking the fullness of our day.” : : :

Brother Roy Vance lived in Fort
Smith some several months before he
was a member of our council. I got
him to transfer after quite a bit of
persuasion and one day I finally ask
ed him to get into my Ford and'drive
down to my house, where I learned he
belonged to that “I used to be” class
that the April Sample Case told us
about. In a few minutes I had Brother
Vance’s name on the dotted line and
his check properly made out to his
secretary. Fort Smith Council accept
ed Brother Vance by transfer on De
cember 22, 1917, and since that time
Roy Vance has been a 100 per cent U.
C. T. He was elected to Executive
Committee soon after and has just
missed one meeting in four years, and
that was during holidays last Decem
ber when he was hack in good old
Tennessee visiting his relatives. Broth
er Vance was appointed Correspond
ent for the Grand Council at Tex
arkana, last year, and is now Junior
Counselor of Fort Smith Council, No.
86.
Brother Vance has presented bou
quets to several members of our coun
cil relative to the effort they have put
forth and the good they have accomp
lished, and I want to say that he has
done as much as any member of Fort
Smith Council and deserves credit for
being one of the mainstays in the in
crease in membership from 262 to 415
in the last year.

I consulted several
doctors but none
seemed to give me
relief. I read in a
paper about Lydia
