To the Officers and Brothers of Dawn-
ville Lodge No. 510, F. & A. M.:
Brethren, we submit the following
tribute of respect:
Again that grim monster against
whose entrance within our circle the
barred doors and tyer’s sword afford
no defense calls upon us to mourn the
loss of one of our beloved brothers,
Brother C. N. Broadrick.
Your committee would like to say
something consoling to the sorrowing
widow, children, mother, sisters and
brothers, but finds mere words inade
quate. We will say that the holy
Bible In which Brother Broadrick was
a loyal believer and adherent to its
truths, furnishes words of much con
solation, and we recommend them to
seek consolation within that sacred
book.
We like to think of Brother Broad
rick in connection with such Bible
phrases as “Blessed are the dead that
die in the Lord.' They rest from their
^ labors and their works do follow them, 1
and “They that believe on Me shall
never die, but shall be a living foun
tain springing up unto everlasting life.”
So we console ourselves with the as
surance that he was submissive to
God’s will, for he left assurance that
he was trusting in God, and if it was
His will for him not to survive the
ordeal that it was well with him.
So we would admonish our brethren
and the family of the deceased to be
submissive to God’s will, and serve
Him, and some sweet day, in the sweet
bye and bye, we will clasp glad hands
with him again and be reunited where
sad partings never come.
Therefore, be it resolved, That £
copy of\ this tribute be spread on our
book of records, a copy furnished the
family of the deceased and a copy sent
to The North Georgia Citizen for pub.

BANKS AND CHURCHES.
Everyone who is at all intelligent
and well informed knows that the
moral condition of a community is very
closely associated with the life and
influence of the churches. Very little
hope for stable business conditions
could there be in a community where
religion has no place. A worth-while
building must have a worth-while
foundation.
Emphasis was recently given to this
fact by the five banks at Portsmouth,
Ohio, by an advertisement in their
local papers. In a prominently dis
played advertisemenL five columns
wide and eighteen inches deep, the
banks invited their employes and every
citizen of the town to attend some
church on the following Sabbath. - It
contained this statement: “Every
banker in Portsmouth knows that if
churches had not been here since the
beginning of the town, the banks could
not stay a week—would never have
been here. Law and order must pre
cede safe banking. Churches induce
law and order.”
Those who are less intelligent than
bankers, and less responsible, financial
ly and otherwise, sometimes imagine
that they are conferring a great favor
on the churches when they occasionally
attend them or contribute to their
support. The favor and assistance are
in the other direction. Really respect
able and responsible men would hard
ly venture to live or do business in a
town that is without a church.
The best there is in the best of men
goes into the life of the churches, and
their contribution to the church life,
under God, is the best assurance of
peace and order in the life of the town.
