GOLD MEDAL
About fourteen years ago, Mr. W. H.
Griffin’s children decided to celebrate
his birthday.
Our plans were to surprise him by
all going to see him on the same day.
His birthday was on Sunday that year.
We attended church, at Griffin Chapel,
and, as usual, the father wag there,
and, according to the good old rural
custom, invited ns all home with him ;
but contrary to his expectations, we all
went. His eyes looked rather large
as we ail rolled up.
There were five families with from
one to five children each. I think he
was wondering how he could feed such
a mob of hungry folks; but his coun
tenance underwent a complete change
when each family brought out a basket
filled with grub and spread it on an im
provised table under the big oak tree
in the yard.
This was the beginning of the Griffin
reunions.
