The lands of {Southern Georgia are
V -A
well adapted to sheep raising. They j
afford excellent pasturage both sum A

grass, and another species of grass
fmtnd among it. together with an
abundant supply of herbs and buds
which arc green and growing the
year round, are sufficient with no otii
er substance to keep large {locks of
sheep through the winter ns well as !
summer months. A thousand slice])
xviil find an abundant supply of mate
rial for their subsistence on five lots
of unimproved land of 490 acres, or
21 to 3 acres for each sheep kept.
The experiment of raising sheep in j
Southern Georgia lias been tried and
proved a success. We could cite a !
number.of persons of our acquaintance :
in Southern Georgia in the sheep rais- j
ing business who make it a specialty. ;
They date’ their prosperity from the
time they begun the business, and to- j
day count their gains by the thous
ands. The common course wool sheep I
1 |
are of the usual size, weighing from 1
seventy to a hundred pounds. They
yield, or average, about four pounds
of wool annually. The ewes when
well cared for usually have two lambs.
Sheep of this description can bo!
bought in the spring aftci shearing
for one dollar and fifty cents per head.
From the test already made of rais
ing sheep in Southern Georgia, and
the-success attending it, when .we
take into consideration the great
