Mr. Tatum’s bill shipped to prohibit dressed >
beef from being into this
state, does not appear to be a popular
one. ft may be a very good Gill for
stock growers, but not for beef con
sinners. Mr. Tatum says that (ieor
gia stock growers do not get half as
much for beeves as they did before
the shipping of dressed beef from the
west to southern towns began.
It may be true that (Jeargia beeves
nre not in as great demand as they
were before western dressed beef
found its way into our markets, but,
as a matter of fact, is not the western
beef very much superior to the home
article? The thing for the Georgia
stock raisers to do is to improve their
breeds of cattle. The dressed beef
from the west is not a first-class
article, * and it could not hold its place
jn our marketH , if , t were not for the
inferior quality of Georgia beef.
There is reason for thinking that
good Hut beef can be produced until in the Georgia,

truth. It was written by J. F. Ord
for tho Nebraska Farmer, and ought
to be stored away in every boy’s
scrap-book of memory where it will
be easy of access: An educated boy
will plow a straighter furrow, do
more work with a team without
hurting them, will not water them
them when they are too warm, will feed
occasionally, regularly, change their feed
lie will put hisimple

through using them ; he will rotate
his crops on his land ; he will keep'
the best grades ot stock ; be will be
kinder and take more interest in his
stock and know what kind is the
most profit: ble to handle : he will
not always feed his fug n corn
alone and keep them in a yard
inhere there is a rotten straw stack
for the to lie in; he will get his
implcn nts for his spring work
ready lor use in winter and not wait
till the Jim day comes when lie
nee<is to use them ; be will make a
live man—a happy man ; he will feel
a real interest in the plants around
him ; lie will have an assortment of
apples in his orchard; he will be a
better neighbor; and having had
Home his experience and observation m

knowing that lie is well off’ when he
is so. he will be a much more con¬
