LAMONT.
The quarterly conference was held it
Prospect Sunday. There was quite a
crowd considering the unfavorable
weather. Dr. Fletcher Walton preach
ed an able sermon in the morning, and
after dinner the church officials assem
bled together for conference.
Messrs. Turner, Flint, Pritchett, and
Miss Pauline Pritchett of Brent at
tended the quarterly conference at
Prospect Sunday.
The Epworth League will meet at
Mr. A. J. Sappington’s next Saturday
night. The topic will be a debate,
“Resolved, that t^ere is more pleasure
in anticipation than in realization.”
Affirmative: Messrs. S. E. George and
Homer Sappington. Negative: Mrs.
Fred Bush, Miss Ethel Sappington and
Mr. Hillyer Means. We are anticipat
ing an interesting meeting, as both sides
have some able talents. We would ap
preciate a large attendance and give
everybody ft cordial invitation.

iveness of Prospect High School under
the management and tender care of
Misses Henri Winter and Dora Hills
man. They have seventy pupils on
roll, the largest attendance ever known
in the history of the school. We all
have learned to love the teachers, and
know we have the best school in the
county. They say they need a janitor,
and I believe I will mail my application
to Mr. Phinaz.ee for appointment.
Messrs. S. E. Sappington and W. E.
Hudgins attended the party at Mr.
Charlie Howard’s of Brent Friday
night. They report a pleasant time.
Miss Rebecca Owen of Barnesville
spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs.
O. H. Owen.
Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Ham of High
Falls were in our midst Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Sappington of
Meansville visited home folks here Sat
urday night and Sunday.
Messrs. John Howard and Herman
Bankston of Barnesville were at Pros
pect Sunday.
Misses Henri Winter and Dora Hills
man attended the teachers’ meeting at
Forsyth Saturday.

have the woman’s club meet with mo
nny afternoon to help my inn quilt and
darn button holes.
There was a free will offering made
Sunday at Prospect for the flood suf
ferers of Ohio and other unfortunate
States.
Fanning is somewhat demoralized in
this section, but we have been blest
to have escaped the eycolnes. We have
never failed to make a crop yet, and
why should we be such chronic grumb
lers'?

spring morning, to give you all the
news of our little village.
Mr. Jesse Coleman, of Russellville,
was visiting relatives here Saturday
and Sunday and attended Sunday
school and prayer meeting Sunday.
Miss Ethel Hardin from Jasper coun
ty is spending the week with her sis
ter, Mrs. Dr. B. F. Smith, this week.
Mrs. W. R. Johnson has been on the
sick list for the last week, but glad to
say she is some better.
Miss Pearl Goggans spent Saturday
and Sunday with homo folks.
Mr. Johnnie Jackson of Crawford
county was one of the far off visitors
at prayer meeting here Sunday night.
Miss Kassie Watts has returned home
from Jackson, where she has been go
ing to school, on account of smallpox,
but we hope she will not have them.

Guess all the farmers are getting dis
heartened about so much rain.
Mrs. I. P. and Mrs. Laura Davis
spent a while with Mrs. J. H. Baggarly
Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Coleman were ov
er in our midst Friday night.
The Easter egg hunt given by Miss
Lessie Maynard, teacher at Calvary
school, was enjoyed by the “school
children,” and a number of friends
also.
Mrs. W. N. Maynard and Mrs. C. J.
Childs spent Saturday evening with
Mrs. J. H. Baggarly.
Mr. J. H. Baggarly made a business
trip to Forsyth Thursday.
Oh! heard that “Fritz” let another
girl from his town get away. Don’t
let all of them go.
Mr. W. N. Maynard and daughter,
Miss Lessie Maynard, made a trip to
Forsyth Saturday.
Miss Mattie Maynard is visiting her
sister, Mrs. Gammage in Macon.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wiggins of Craw
ford County spent Friday night and
Saturday with their daughter, Mrs.
J. H. Baggarly.
We are sorry to say that Mrs. J. H.
Baggarly of this place has been quite
ill. We hope that she will soon con
valesce.
Mr. Ed Culverhouse of Ceres was up
at. Rogers Friday afternoon ofter his
sister, Miss Annie Culverhouse, who is
assistant teacher there.
Mr. T. 11. Phinazee, the C. S. C., vis
ited Rogers school last Tuesday.
It was interesting to hear him tell of
his trip to Damascus and other points
at the Mediterranean sea.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brooks spent Sun
day evening with Mr. and Mrs. J. H.
Baggarly.
Mrs. Claude Snead and her daughter,
Mrs. Fannie Coleman, spent Sunday af
ternoon in our town.
Miss Lillian Brooks spent Sunday af
ternoon with “Curly Hair.”
I believe “Jack Frost” has paid us
his last visit. So Sunday-School has
started again. 1 hope it will progress
rapidly.
As news is scarce, and I can hardly
write with my burned hand, will leave

MT. VERNON.
I wonder what the farmers will do
if it keeps on raining every few days.
Some one said we would have to go to
raising puddle ducks. If we did I
think they would drown.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Grubbs spent
Saturday and Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Grubbs.
The party given by Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Davis was enjoyed by all present.
Because it was so cold, I don’t think
it was very largely attended.
