present corporation law, imposing
a 1 per cent tax on the earnings
of corporations, stock companies,
insurance companiee and the like,
but it would exempt partnerships.
This is a flat rate, there being no
graduated scale as the earnings
increase. The few changesjfrom
the present corporation act con
cern chiefly the time of making
returns and the time of collection
It is estimated by members of
of the committee that approxi
mately $100,000,000 in revenue
may be derived from this new
tax including the corporation tax,
that amount making up for the
deficiency in revenues to be deriv
ed from imports by virtue of the
greatly reduced tariff rates and
the transfer to the free list arti
cles that are classed as necessar
ies of living.
Look to Your Plumbing.
You know what happens in a house
in which the plumbing is in poor con
dition —everybody in the house is
liable to contract typhoid or some
other fever. The digestive organs per
form the same functions in the human
body as the plumbing does for the
house, and they should be kept in first
class condition all the time. If you
have any trouble with your digestion
take Chamberlain’s Tablets and you
are certain to net quick relief. For
