Wonders of Panama
CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE.)
hence breakfast was in demand, so the
•dining room was full and the passen
gers on the qui vive to start the long
sea journey of one thousand miles
without a s x op in the beat of the en
gines. All that day we lay in the har
b^ for the reason that the special train
tW Chicago down the wonderful East
Coast extension on the Keys of Florida
was also about a day late, and as the
East Coast runs those Key West voy
ages to Panama, the boat had to wait ।
for her passengers. I might here just
as well tell you something of Key
West and that wonderful ocean rail
road. To my mind Mr. Flagler’s con
ception of a railroad to Key West
from Homestead, the last real piece of
land in the Florida peninsula, was as
bold and daring an idea as ever crept
into a man’s brain. To look at it from
the jutting point of land as we gather
the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of
Mexico into one sweeping vision, as
they contend for mastery across those
emerald spots built by the great archi
tects of the sea, the coral, which is so
small an insect that he has to be stud
ied under the microscope; the average
mind would hardly even dream of con
necting Key West with the main land
by two ribbons of steel; but it was con
ceived in the mind of Mr. Flagler and
birth given in the brain of those won
derful engineers whom he afterwards
chose to execute his idea. It is said
that he asked if it could be done, and
they said it could, but that the cost
would be prohibitive. He replied by
saying: “Never mind the cost, build
the road,’’ and the road was built, al
though at times it looked as if the
bottom could never be reached for a
solid foundation at many places, and
the shafts were sunk until it is said
that concrete rests 100 feet beneath the
surface in some of the arches of the
structure. It is one great chain of
concrete arches, some of them several
miles in length until they can catch
*‘toe holt” onto a reef jutting out of
the sea, and then by dredges the chalky
looking mud of the sea is brought to
the surface, and by suction pumps ahd
dredges is deposited between the ties
where it becomes as hard as limestone
after it is dried out by the sun. The
fact is, that at one particular spot on
the line, the keys are so far apart, that
you can sit in a comfortable Pullman
with sea breezes from two oceans fan
ning your face, with no dust to annoy
you, and look out on the East into the
blue Atlantic and see no land, and then
again turn your eyes to the West and
look out into the green Gulf of Mexi
co and see no land; a railroad ship at
sea, and with none of the uncomforta
ble motions of a ship to annoy your
petulant stomach. This is rather an
uncanny sight, and as it is a single
track with nothing to catch you if
you should fall, one wonders what
would be the casualty if a brake rod
should become detached and drop, or

A MESSAGE TO WOMEN
Who are “Just Ready to Drop.”
When you are “just ready to drop,”
when you feel so weak that you can
hardly drag yourself about —and be
cause you have not slept well, you
get up as tired-out next morning as
when you went to bed, then you need
help right away.
Miss Lea Dumas writes from Ma
lone, N. Y., saying: “I was in a badly
run-down condition for several weeks,
but two bottles of Vinol put me on
my feet again and made me strong
and well. Vinol has done me more
good than all the other medicine I
ever took.”
If the careworn, haggard men and
women, the pale, sickly children and
feeble old folks around here would
follow Miss Dumas’ example, they,
too, would soon be able to say that
Vinol, our delicious cod liver and iron
remedy, had built them up and made
them strong.
It is a wonderfully strengthening
and invigorating body-builder, and we
sell it under an ironclad guarantee
of satisfaction. You get your money
back if Vinol does not help you.

Chlorosis
Green Sickness
Delicate girls who are approaching the age of womanhood are usually subject to
this disease. They are pale because the blood is weak and watery. Their
complexion has a sickly greenish cast which gives the disease its name. They
have no vitality and if exposed to any unusual excitement, excessive labor or
cold dampness are liable to contract some disease that will disastrously effect
their whole future lives. It is a most critical period. The right remedy to
relieve this condition and bring back the rosy hue of health is
DR. SIMMONS
Squaw Vine Wine
It is a palatable remedy, a fine, pleasant tasting medicine. Its agreeable flavor,
however, is no criterion of its efficacy, it does the work expected of it more
promptly than the harsh, bitter tasting medicines. It begins the restorative process
with the first dose and if used for a reasonable period, the misery, weakness and
pallor disappear, the spirits rise, the appetite becomes good, the sleep sound and
restful and the thin, vitiated blood is revitalized and goes coursing through the
veins, carrying new life, strength and energy to all parts of the body.
