PAYS FOR HER DEFENSE I HEN
CONVICTS HIS TENANT.
A case in the city court of For
syth brought about a peculiar sit
uation. A negro wom m by the ,
name of Charity, was accused ol 1
stealing some barbed wire fence
from the place of Mr. R II
Fletcher. Charity now works for
Mr. Tom Scott and he employed
counsel to defend her. It hap
pencil that he was on the jury at
the April term of court and it al
so happened that the State ac
cepted him as a juror in the cise
against Charily, and, although he
was paying for the defense he, as
a member of the trial jury, brought
in a verdict of guilty.
It isn’t often that such a situa
tion arises, and it. speaks much
for Mr. Scott’s ideas ol right and
justice.
