WILLINGHAM’S ADDRESS ON
JEFFERSON DAVIS FEATURE
OF MEETING OF U. D. C.
The Cabaniss chapter U. D. C.
held its regular meeting Monday,
June 9, Mrs. W. C. Champlin being
hostess.
This was the first meeting since
the election of new officers and Mrs.
R. L. Bivins, president, took charge
with her usual ease and dignity.
Mrs. F. R. Stokes in a graceful
and charming manner presented the
retiring president, Mrs. A. M. Zell
ner, a beautiful U. D. C. pin in be
half of the chapter as a token of its
appreciation of her services as presi
dent for the past three years.
The most interesting feature of
the occasion was the address on Jef
ferson Davis, delivered by Mr. Frank
B. Willingham. If admiration for
this hero of the sixties had been on
the wane in the heart of any one
present it was rekindled by leaps and
bounds as Mr. Willingham unfolded
the story of this man’s sufferings
and sacrifice. He placed special em
phasis upon President Davis’ ability
to read character correctly and his
faithful adherence to the right, as he
conceived it, in spite of the opposi
tion of friends and the criticism of
enemies. It was a most pleasing and
powerful address and the chapter
hopes to be favored again in a sim
ilar way by Mr. Willingham.
After the exercises delicious tea
and savory sandwiches were served
by Misses Winifred Champlin and
Emily’ Alexander.
