Building on the Sand. 'Tin well to wots ’tin well to wed, w**- For so the world hath done, Since myrtles grew nnd roses Mow, And morning brought the sun. _ But have n ear**, ye young Rnd fair. Be sure yen pledge with truth ; Be certain tha* your love will went Beyond the days of youth ! For if you give not heart for lienrt A« w ell a* hand for hand, Ton’ll find you’ve plnyed an unwise part, And “built upon tlic sand.” ’Tis well to save. ’Tis well to have * A goodly store of gold, _ And bold enough of eliining stuff, For charity is cold. But place not all your hopes and trust On what the deep mine brings ; We cannot live with yellow dust Unmixcd with purer things, And ho who piles up wealth alone, Will often have to stand Beside his coffer chest and own 'Tis “built upon the sand.” ’Tis good to speak in kindly guiso And soothe where’er wc can ; Fair Rpcccli should bind the human mind, And love link niu.ii to man. But stay not at the gentle words; Let deeds with language dwell; The one who pities starving birds, Should scatter crumbs as well. The mercy that is warm and truo Must lend a helping hand, For those who talk yet fail to do, But “build upon tlic sand." Atlanta is going to Lave an opera house and a monument —one for music and the other for Lincoln. —Boston Post. She has had the opera house. The Sher iff has got it now. Tt is a touching thought, though, that sho builds monuments to “the sainted Lincoln” and fullers her poor to starve. — Mobile Advertiser <fr Register. Revival of Anti-Masonry. The Augusta Constitutionalist says: We alluded last week, to the fact that Wendell Phillips had, iu bis Fourth of July speech, taken occasion to denounce, in bitter and lying language, the Masonic fraternity, and wo also quoted from the Toledo (Ohio) Blade a couple of extracts whose purpose seemed to be to revivo all the old exploded jcalums nies against Masonry, and kindle anew the baleful fires of Anti-Masonic bigotry. Allu ding to the charges made in the Blade , an unmasotiic exchange says: ‘The charge that any person connected with a Masonic Lodge believes his obliga lions to that order ‘paramount to those he owes his ccuutry, or to his God,’ is nmong the extreme fooleries of a past age. Equally false and gratuitous ! s it to charge that an institution that honored Washington and that Washington honored, and which embraced within its mystic circle every Araerioan Ma jor General in the army of the Revolution, save one, and that one was Benedict Arnold, and with them, the author of the Declaration of Independence, is inimical to and ‘contrary to the genius of Republican Government.’ “ What the writer expects to gain by the revival of Anti-Masonry is haid to determine- It never was brought into Ohio politics but once, and then all the elements opposed to the Democratic party fused with it and agreed to support its candidate. Darium Lyman, for Governor in 1832, and the whole concern was ? badly beaten. But the Negro Suffrage* ites want something new in poilics, nnd they hope that Anti-Masonic will answer as well as did the corpse'found in the Niagara river, during the first Anti Masonic excitement, which, when its whiskers were shaved, was pronounced a “good enough Morgan until after the electiou !” MONT VALE 8 P KING 8, —1 G G *7 TITTS popular Summer Report having been placed in thorough repair, and furnished with new furniture, will be opened for visitors on the Ist of June, under the direction and control of the undersigned, proprietors of the .American Hotel, Atlanta, tin, Mostvale presents the strongest attractions to both the invalid and pleasure seeker, nolois on account of its retirement and beautiful surround ing scenery, than of the restorative powers of its waters.
