It is unnecessary for us to say a word in commendation of anything eminating from this distinguished gentleman, but we would advise all who need enlighten ment in this dark day of political despotism, to get a copy of these ‘Notes’ and give it ft care ful perusal. _ A Good Paper. We often wonder how it is that the Week ly MaCou Telegraph cottid come out in such n large size during these hard times. Each number couta : uß over fifty columns of choice reading matter, and it is emphati cally, a nowspaper for the times. We opine that the Telegraph folks are ener getic and know exactly what kind of ft pas per suits the people. Scott’s Magazine lor July is received, and in point of interest equals any of its predeces sors. Look out for the Show. According to the calculation of astronomers for the correctness Os which wfe do not vouch to-night or to-thotfow night, there will bo • meteoricilisplny. This will be a groat show no “side shows,” but the whole of it can be seen under one grand pavilion, to which every body is most cordially invited. The stars— yes the stars that “twinkle way up above the world so high” will comracnoe darting fiom one side of the henvens to the other like hot shot out of a cannon, presenting one of the grandest, sights tho eyes ever beheld. Now we ask all of our readers to come out and risk one eye on the show. Do not be frightend, for there is no danger of being harmed, unless this "falling of stars” knocks the world from its axis—if that happens we would not give the wrappings of our finger for your chance. We do not know that thc "powers that be” have taken any steps to notify the public at what hour the show commences, but wo presume that, so soon ns the curtain is raised in this place it will be followed by the barking of every dog that infests our town. Again wc say iook out for the show Ga. Enterprise. The Crops- The Covington Enterprise says ; We have the cheering intelligence from the lips of every farmer we meet, “my crop is the best for many years.” The wheat crop in this county was very good, and is all housed, and mostly threshed—the yield fine. The larger portion of tho corn may now be considered safe, and the yield will be immense. Cotton is looking well, and with propitious seasons, thc amount raised will appioximate that of ante helium times. A Gascon officer, hearing the brave deeds of a prince described, who had in two battles killed six men with his own hand, “Bah !” said he, “there is nothing wonderful in that. I want you to know that the mattrass or. which I repose my limbs is filled with the moustaches of rneD I have sent to the other world.” A Mississippi paper thinks Gen. Ord was omitted from the vote of thanks be-, cause he was the only commander who failed to get up a riot. He is never omit ted from general Ord-ers.
