The result was an arrest, a trial for slan der and imprisonment in the county jail. — After Lorenzo got out of this “limbo,” he denounced that in spite of this (in his opinion) unjust imprisonment, he should preach at a given time, a sermon about another “rich man.” The populace were greatly excited and a crowded audience greeted his appear ance. With great solemnity he opened his tible and read, “aud there was another rich man who died and went to— —i theD stopped short and seemed to be suddenly im pressed. “Brethren, I shall not mention the place that rich man went to, for fear he may have relatives in this congregation who may •ue me for defamation of character.” We once heard of a traveller at a Peonsyl vania hotel, who rose from his bed at night to examine the weather, but instead of look ing on the sky, thrust his head through a glass window of a cupboard. “Landlord," cried the astonished man, “this is very singular weather; the night is as dark as Egypt, and smells of cheese ?" Dr. Loring told the people of Salem that a live man could not be made out of a dead one; but has not his practice proved how quick this proposition may he reversed < It was a cruel reply to an affectionate wife who asked ; Am 1 not your only treasure.’’ “Certainly; and I should like to lay you up in Heaven.” “B ONTO The (Greatest Blessing of the Age s DANFORTH A GO.
