A consi ' table amount of business awe up and war rpeedily dispa'ch-d. The most important casscs were that of three negroes charged wi.h murder. The Jury fouod each guilty of v. luntaiy man slaughter and they were sentenced to the i’eni ten.iary, one forfifteeu years and t'e other two for five years each. Court is atilt in session and w.ll not adjourn b«- foie even ieg. Bryant of Agusta delivered a speech to the ne groes in this place on Saturday last. We bead but little from which the poor ignorant negroes could t* e encouragement. A great deal of his speech they didn’t understand at all. Ju one portion of it we heard him say that if the late war had been wa ged for the mere abolition of slavery that tvo would have fought for the inaiuiainanco of slavery. This brought tremendous cheer from the negroes. Olli er simpar remarks had a likcydfechs upon his sable Hearers. Death of Guv. Helm. Hon.‘-dolin'L. Emory College. We are pleased to learn of the targe attendance of students at this honored Institution. It has now hear two hundred, and many more have requested admission. With such a Faculty as it possesses, Emory is receiving what it justly merits, a liberal datronage. The Late Elections. Vermont has gone for the‘Radicals, but with a considerable decreased majority, California announces a great I/emd'rnitic vielosy —a gain of two Democratic Congressmen, and two Sen (tors in tftc Federal (‘ ng't . The State Logis lature is solid Democratic.* The accounts from Maine leave some doubt —the Democrats have gained immense, and it is thought 1 ave elected thMr Govontor. The Amnesty Proclamation. This document long looked for has at last made its appearance, and will be found in this issue. This leaves about fifteen handed subjects for the Federal courts, to be prosecuted lor "Treason. Those par doned who were under the law, are not restored to the exercise of franchise or eligibility to office.— When conservative sentiments control national leg islation, the Proclamation will have its desired ef fect and uot hntil tlign.
