Kourtin. I luv to kourt in Winter, The many ffnrls I rtO, W'lien nil outride is dreorry, And kivered up with *no ; 1 luv to kourt in Winter, Because the old folks dred • The kohl and stormi wether, And burn oph to bed, ji 1 ]uv to kourt in Spring-tymo, When awl is Write and gay, * When Nutur smiles so sweetly, Jo chase the kold way ; I luv to kourt in Spring-tyme, Beeawse the gurls you no They look so orful prittoy In dresses kut solo. I luv to kourt in Summer, When all things aro in hlume, And yet I thynk that courting Writ ever be mi dome. For 1 have ask’d just 21 Os all the gurls I kno, Tew have mo for their loving one, And they have answer’d— No! t Little by Little. One step and then another; And the longest walk is ended ; One stitch, and then another, And the largest rent is mended ; One brick upon another, _ And tho highest walk is made ; One flake upon another, And the deepest snow is laid. So the little coral workers By their slow, hut constant motion, Have built those pretty islands In the distant (lark blue ocean ; And the noblest undertakings Man’s wisdom hath conceived, Bv oft repeated efforts Have been patiently achieved. A Moukl Correspondent.— A puls Usher of a paper mode arrangements with a man in a neighboring town to furnish him with news items from that locality. The result of the arrangement is as follows, and was rather startling to the editor: “There iz not much noos around here yit, but there iz a littul, A man had his hed cut in a site last nite, the doctur sez if he don't get well before moinin, that lie will heve to die sartin, lie leves one email wife and family. Another man iz sick and I gess hc’z got the kolery but some people say bis wife pizened him, tho doctor kant tell yet, but when he dies, they arc going to hold a post mor* ting over him. Another man’s horse’dide last nite. He could eat more than any 5 kattul round, and since he dido oats hav gone down tu sent* on a bushel.— Thia iz all the nooß here now. Don’t forgit and send a paypur. Your KorUpomlint. Gen. Pope’s tryannical order forbuU ding people to advertise only in certain papers in Georgia, is making a great stir in that State, and throughout the country. It exceeds, in impudence, anything that has thus far transpired under the South" ern despotism ! Ho probably owns an interest in the five “loyal journals,” for whose benefit the “order’’ was intended. —Catskill N. Y., liec. $ Deni. On one occasion a party was drinking in “old Hunter’s” store, when one of them, taking advantage of tho old man’s deafness, proposed a toast: “Here’s to old Hunter, tho two-sided old vidian ; may he be kicked to death by mules, and bis body be sunk in the sea a hundred fathoms deep ; may no prayer be said over him, and his blind soul wander rayless through all eternity. The toast was drunk in great glee, in which the old man joined. “The same to yourselves, gentlemen,” Baid he, “the same yourselves.” Os course he had not heard a wold that waß said. Awful— Tbc following Btartling threat was made uso of the other day, by an excited pugilist : “I’ll twist you round your own neck and ram you down your own throat, until there is nothing left of you but the extreme ends of your shirt collar sticking out of your eyes.'' His opponent left. Srx months ago a Boston house sent out an invoice of five hundred hoop skirts to Japan at a venture. The Japs put a cover on them and used them for um brellas. A negro beforo the police court at Louisville, on a charge of stealing, rather took down the concern by remarking, as lie was inarched to jail, that “if dey didn’t let a nigger steal a little in die dam coun try, I’sc gwineback to Tennessee, where Mr. Brownlow ’ll seo a nigger git his rights, sure.’’ An exchange says the names of Stan ton, Stevens, Sumner, Schenck, Shanks and Satan all begin with S, but only Stanton and Satan end the same way. The Philadelphia Ledger refers to a school teacher who makes the reading of a new* paper one of the regular exerci ses, ana who states that the scholars all get ready for the “task” with enthusiasm. There is a story of a celebrated French preacher, who, on delivering a sermon, on the duties of wives, said, ‘I see oppo site, in this congregation, a woman who has been guilty of the sin of disobedi ence to her husband, and in order to point her out to universal condemnation, 1 will fling ray breviary at her head.’— He lifted his book, and every female head instantly ducked. ‘ Pat,’’ said Judge Smith, to his neigh bor in a sleeping car,’’ you would have to remain a long time in the old country before you could have slept with a Judge.” “Yts, )er hener ; and ye would have been a long time in the ould country be fore ye'd been a Judge,” Prentice says : “Stuffiing in this city, improves the fair a? well as the fowl.” HBItM A N N , DEALER is line Watches.
