Accidental Death.
Mr. James Swan, was killed on the first day
of this month by the falling of his horse. He
was in Covington on that day and on his re
turn home his horse stumbled, and throwing
Mr. Swan upon the ground, causing his imme
diate death, Ilis son was near him when the
accident occurred hut before he reached his
father, death had firmly grasped its victim,
lie was about sixty years of age and although
possessed of some faults had many virtues
which, endeared him to his family and neigh-

“Experience Meeting ”
A gathering oftlie voters of tins county ou Tues
day last was held at the court house. Many were
out, both white ami colored, nud a few expressed
their opinions upon the great questions that now
convulse the nation. No ttelinito action was tukeu,
and after several ineffectual efforts to agree, the
meeting adjourned without a day. Animation is
in fusing itself into the mimls of the masses, and be
fore the ides of November appear, political speeches
and political meetings will be offrequent oceurreure.
The stagnant, waters are beginning to emit their
stench —the atmosphere is becoming impregnated
with matter that threatens flic tranquillity of the
country and the peace of its inhabitants. To all we
would sav. Engage not in strife, but keep continu
ally in wisdom’s path, and frown upon contention.
