AGREE ULTLRAL Fanners sell too many of their beef cattle when they arc > n merely Ordinary lx pruondition. sh doinjr t..is there is.atwo fold loss that hut few consider. . The animal yields » Dumber of pounds, and the ineatonngs a low a r price. He-, tween ordinary beef mid reuliy choice fat beef, there is always a difference of two or three cents per pouud, and this diiTcreuoe, when added to the whole ntnrber of pounds when the animal is in the bosk condition, will bo found" to be no mean amount, Nothing pars bettor than the few bushels of gram or the few days upon good June grass, that puts the touch ujkmi what is generally dendmina'- ted a good beef animal. Those .of our readcis who have followed this often repeated advice in onr livestock market reports, are wit nesses to its soundness. Do not be in hurry to market under ordinary circumstances, uutil cattle are really fat. The same applies to all other market animals.— [Ex. Boiled Peas—Boiled peas says a correspondent of the Richmond Farmer, as food for milch cows, and for fattening hogs is far superi or to c«rn, incal, or anything else 1 have ever seen tried. My honest opinion is that two bushels of peas are superior to, or woi th more to fatten hogs, or to increase the milk of Cows, than threo buOielg of corn applied to the same objects Iu experimenting I have found that hogs not oply fattened doubly as fast but that the improvement of their general condition was in ten days to double the yield of milk. My plan iu using them was to soak ; them in water, twelve hours or through the night, before boiling them. By this process, their bulk was double, and consequently re quired less boiling. The surest protection against rot in the potato after harvested, is air slaked lime. Let the lime be sprinkled over the bottom of the bin before lilting, and repeat the application at each foot of pota toes, as the bin is filled up. The quantity is what farmers would call a good sprinkling. Potatoes should bo excluded from the light, and covered with old carpet, etc., when convenient. When buried out of doors a high dry spot should be selected, which can be thor oughly drained, and then pursue the same plan with the lime as be fore. A vent must bo left for the escape of the confined air. " » ~ ’<>» *— ■ Jl CuiiAe Family Pudding. ~ Ont- pound of flour, one pouud of suet ehopped fino, three-quarters of a pound of molasses or sugar, one pound end'll of carrots and potatoes well boiled and mushed together, half a pound of raisins, three-quar ters of a pouud of bread- crumbs / spice, flavoring, and peel optional. Mix the whole together with a lit tle waiter: it must not be too etifT and ccrtiauly not too moist. Rub a basin well with dripping, and boil for eight hours. How to grow Onions.— The prairie Farmer gives the following directions for growing onionSr "One half hushcl common sah, one pound sulphur, two ounces car bonate of ammonia. Tills amount to be applied at one time—the first application to be wade as soon as the onions inuie up, if the ground should get hard an i woody, the amount should bo doubled or. even tripled. 1' :hs is the famous recipe by which so many onions were said to be grown in lowa last year.— No hoeing or weeding is required. The composition is for one acre, to be applied once a week for eight weeks, opou onions sown broad cast. I Ginger Drops.— Two tablcsfoon luls of molasses, one of lard, half a cup of sour milk oue teaspoon-, lul of soda. Will bo letter witt one ep'jj, but can bo made without. Flour enough to make a batter that will drop easily, Bake quickly. Poor Man’s Cake— One table spoontul of butter, one egg, otic cup of sugar, on«f of sweet milk or cream, one of soda and two of cream of tartar, mixed dry in two cups of flour. A Eive People’s Paper AT A LOW PRICE, A FTER mature and deliberate refle. tion it _/A has been determined to again reduoe the subscription prioe if the Daily New Era. We have fully satisfied our elves that this can be done with the most beneficial results to uU con eerned, merchants, people and publisher. Light must be diffuse 1, intelligence must be dissemi nated, and the medium through which this is to be accomplished is the newspaper press; and to stimulate the people to read, the price must be reduced to the lowest possible point. To place the Dally Era within their reach tbe prioe has been reduced to FIVE DOLLARS PER-ANNUM, payable in advance, or FIFTY CENTS per month for a shorter time, This makes the Era the ohenpestJDaily paper in the couth, if not in the country, and if oare ful, untiring attention and industry aunil any thing it shill be one of tho best. We must have, and are detorminod to have, a large cir oulation, if a large, live, reliable and W6ll-filled handsome paper, at a low price will secure it. We intend the Era shall be second to no paper South of the Potomac in point of circulation, readable, reliable mutter, and as an advertising medium. Let the people send In their names and mo ney, and let the merchants make a note of our determination. The Era is emphatically the PEOPLE’S PAPER.
