Kentucky Insurance advertises
ment in another column. Our friend Davi
son is traveling agent, he is too well known
to need any commendation from us.

The Rev. C. W Lane will preach at the
Presbyterian Churoh, on the sth Sabbath in
this month.
We are requested to state, that Divine
Services may be expected at he Episcopal
Church on Christmas morning, commences
at 10 o’clock.
EDITOR ABSENT—
The editor is absent th s week, which
will be our apology for the paucity of ed
itorial matter in this issue.
ALL ABSENT-
Next week being Christmas week the ed
itor, publisher, and ‘'devil” will all be ab
sent enjoying a little holiday. Those wi,.h
ing to subscribe, Or having business »nh
the office during our absence, will please
call on Mr. John A. Griffin, at the Drug
Stoic, who is our authorized Agent.
RENEW—
The term of subscription of many of our
subscribers expire with this number. We
hope all such will call on Mr. John A. Grif
flh, and promptly renew their subscriptions
and we hope to receive a arge accession of
new names to onr subscription list, that we
may so improve our sheet as to make it an
unrWaled visitor to every fireside in the
county.
LARCENY—
Some thievish wretch entered the dwell
ing house of Mrs. Hunter, one night last
week, find stole an amount of bedding and
wearing apparel. Such crimes are on tin
increase in oar midst and demand a more
vigilant night watch.
OFF FOR BALTIMORE
Capt. Phillip Poullain, being disgusted
with negro dominion in Georgia, has re
moved his family from this place to the no
ble city of Baltimore. While wo regret to
port with so good a lliken. we congratu
late the Baltimorians on the acquisition of
so worthy and estimable gentleman.
DROWNED—
We were pained to learn that on last
Sunday morning, little WILLIE, a spright
ly son of onr esteemed fellow-townsman.
Mr. G 11. Camp, was drowned in the Oco
nee river at Long Shoals Factory, the even
ing previous. He fell overboard from a
flat while crossing the river, at and tnere b -
ing no one in the boat that co dd render
assistance, the poor little fellow “warn a
short distance and then sank to ri*e no
more. In this afflictive dispensation of Di
vinc Providence, we tend r our sincere
sympathies to the bereaved family, and
hope that God will comfort and sustain
them in their sore distress.
A GOOD HOUSE—
We take pleasure iu recommending th
firm of Jones, Smyth & Cos.. Atift si Oa
They are Stove dealers.- and the firm is not
unknown to our citizens for promptness ami
reliability. They are endeavoring to bring
into use two new stoves called the "Mal-ion
Cook Stove,” and -Red Jacket,” which un
rivals all other stoves. Front a personal
inspection we are satisfied that they ate
well worthy of a trial, and should any one
wish to buy stoves of anv description no
better house can be found in Augusta.
HERE'S A CHANCE—
We will furnish our paper and “Bu kt’s
Weekly for Boys and Girls,” for the nomi
nal sura of $3 per year. Just think ol it,
two excellent weeklies at that p ice. Fi
ery family in this county should com- up
and subscribe, and get two splendid papers.
Read advertisement iu another column, and
hand over your subscription
THE “SAVANNAH ADVERTISER”—
The proprietore of this sprightly Da,.y.

•‘HOME JOURNAL”—
This is tha title of a Literary Journal
recently started in Baltimore, MU An able
corps of talented Soutnern writers contrib

rounce it the wiry, best literary journal of
its kind for . Honf Lorn lHerutiire, Each
Dumber is illustrated with pic*urcs, which
adds greatly to its appearance. In point
of typography the Journal is unexcelled.
North or Sunth. It is purely a.Southern
paper and should receive South.rn i itron
age. Wo will furnish our paper and the
Journal for $6.
THE GEM OF THfT MONTH LIES -
The January number of “Demorest,”
now entering its sixth year, redeems the
promises of the publisher for 1368. It is
the most attractive of the fashion periodi
cals, and deserves the success which U has
achjev»d. Its aim is to combine the useful
with the beautitul, and it does it in the
best manner. It supplies to ladles a found
of inspiration, which uoue who liav once"
tasted could live, keep house, and dress
nicely without: and save? more dollars in a
year than its cost. It is a marvel how val
uable premiums cun be afforded with a Mag
azine so cosily in its getting-up. $3 per
year. W. Jennings D.-morest, 473 Broad
way, New Fork. Send Id for a spe
cimen, with directions for getting up dubs
and mak’ng tnonei .
St. Mum*
This distinguished Ventriloquist and
Magician, arid urbane gentleman, gave two
entertainments in our city on last Fridav
and Saturday n ghts, in the City El ill. —
They were both largely attended by the
elite of our city, St. Maur is undoubtedly
the best Ventriloquist that we have ever
heard, and iu the exercise of that beautiful
art, justly claims the championship of th •
world. His illusions have no equalj abd In
short St Maur’s entertainments are the best
things of the kind we have ever wiincssed.
We take pleasure iu recommending him to
the patronage of all Southern citizens.—
He fought for four long years in the Con
federate army, end in one of his illusions
uses the very sword he his flourished on
scores bf battle-fields for the sunny South,.
St. Maur’s performances is the only rivals
of “Don John Pope’s .Menagerie of trained
