We acknowledge the recoipt of a catalogue of this honored Institution of learning, and are pleased to note its prosperty at its present locality. From the catalogue (which includes Mercer High School at Penfield and Crawford High School at Dalton) we learn that there are 150 students in attendance upon the various departments of -the University proper, and 244 at the High Schools. These facts speak well for the Baptist of Georgia. We congratu late them upon the success of their ed ucational enterprises, and bid them God speed in the noble work of education. Messrs. Moore & Go., Hardware merchants of Augusta, have recently moved from their old stand to their new and commodious building on Broad street, near the Bank of Augusta- Whije in the city, a few weeks ago, we were shown through their fine establishment, and were astonished to find it so extensive. They keep everything in the hardware line aud their goods are of the very best make aDd quality. They arc too well known for their honesty and fair dealing to render a commendation at our bands necessary. We call the special vttention of our readers to their advertisement in another column. - A Scare. On last Monday it was noised around that one of our citizens bad received a letter from Maxey’s station, on the Athens Branch of the Georgia Rail road, informing him that a number of negroes had left that vicinity in the early morning for Greenesboro’, and enquiring if our people -were apprehen sive of trouble with the negroes. Of course, in the excited state of the coun try, the intelligence created a consider able stir in our city. Upon investigat ing the matter, we found that the ne groes to whom the writer referred com posed a deputaticn, that had been sent by the colored Baptist church at that place, to inquire into certain reports touching the conduct of their pastor, who indulged too freely in liquor aDd became intoxicated during his attend ance upon the session of the association which convened at this place some weeks ago.
