Personal. —We learn that Dr.
\ T m. K. Schley, for many years a
ailing physician and respected citi
:n 'or Columbus, has rented Mrs.
ohnson’s place, with the view of
iking up his abode in Hamilton;
The Doctor is a son of ex-Gov.
fm. Schley, who was inaugurated
overnor of Georgia in 1885. The
(octet's wife, who has been dead a
umber of years, was a daughter of
ho venerable father of Georgia Meth
dism, Dr. Lovick Pierce.
We extend to Dr. Schley and his
aughters a hearty welcome.
Poor Stock. —We were amused at
he description of the Civil Rights
unily given by a negro in Hamilton,
he other day, lie said that he had
nown the family all his life —that
olin and Sam were clever fellows,
ut Bill Civil Rights was a d—d ras
al, and he wouldn’t vote for him as
mg as he lived, nor for “ Dugout ”
'ramineli either.
Dr. L. Pierce. —We learn that this
enerable minister of the gotpel will
nake his home with his son in law,
)r. Schley, who is on the point of
.’moving to this place. Hamilton
hould feel honored in having such a
uan as a resident.

Eagle Killed.— Mr. Hines Dozier
killed a bald eagle last week, on his
place near Waveily Hall, measuring
six feet eight inches from tip to tip.
He was sitting in a pine tree, watch

Large Hawk.— “ Uncle Mike,”
colored, of this place, killed a hawk
on Judge Williams’ place, near town,
a few days ago, which measured four
feet thtee inches from tip to tip.
Wood Wanted. —We are now pre
pared to take dry stove wood at this

Winter isn.—Sunday was damp
and chilly. Only a little rain fejl.
A north wind prevailed on Monday
and Tuesday, which rendefed fires
and thick clothing comfortable. The
change was quite sudden, but We

last. r l hey passed a Very fair and
creditable examination in spelling,

A splendid dinuer was prepared by
the patrons of the school, and was
greatly enjoyed by all present.
The declamation in the afternoon
was good, and indicated some prepa

scholars.
By invitation, Judge Williams, $

t#" Some of our farmers corhplain
that cotton is being stolen from their
fields. And it is not all done by ne
sses either, although they get the
blame. There arc one or two white
men lurking about who will bear
watching.
If every merchant would refuse to
buy small lots of cotton unless they
were known to have been honestly
obtaiued, and would not purchase at
night, it would lessen the evil.

J6@“ i The La Grange Reporter says:
“At the recent session of the Wes
tern Baptist Association at Senoia,
25 Callaways took dinner at the same
house, one day. You may well be
lieve that the Callaways are a power
in this part of the land.”
Well, that depends on circumstan
ces. If they had attempted to call
away any of that crowd where they
met, before they bad dined, their
power would have been found to be
very limited.
