At the Democratic meeting keld in Louis
ville on Tuesday last, for the purpose of nomi
nating a candidate to fill the unexpired terra
ot *Jol. Windet P. Johnson—resigned—in the
(iem-ral Assembly of Georgia, Col. Jus. G. Cain
was unanimously nominated without opposition
Next Saturday-week is the day appointed for
the election, and we trust that every Dnmot
erotic voter will be wide awake and at bis post.
As this is a time above all others when we need
intelligence, sobriety and kouesiy as the chief
traits that should characterize our Represen'a
livea in the State's Councils, let ns not fail In

unanimous suffrage that we appreciate the

tiring seal of our fellow cit xen and mutual

There was a change in the symp
toms'at Ga. in-, and ul 7it was evi
dent that death was approaching,
and he commenced rapidly to de
cline. IDs agony was mitigated by
injection of morphine, and he retain
ed partial consciousness until 111
o’clock, when he rtcogniz-d his
friends and thanked several visitors.
Stoke’s. weapon was a four-barrel
ed Colt’s revolver bearing a rill -
bail. At midnight Fisk said be
thought he would get over it, and
walked up stairs alur he was wouu

Stokes they had broken down Un

Stokes S lid in an excited tone, “Is
there no way to beat this man ?”
Stokes then went to Mss Mans
field’s, thence to the scene of tht

The ball has been found but not
extracted. Fisk gave a lucid ac
count of the event to the jury.
ManstLu.d, who visited Stokes in
jail, told the rejairter that he—Ned
Stokes—must have been crazy.
Jay Gould was in constant alien*
dance. While Fisk lived Gould's
time wore its usual calm expression,
but when Fisk expired his fortitude
gave way. Gould’s- grief found
vent in tears. No unkind word w’as
heard of the dead from the vast
crowd*
