There wasn’t any boom in Georgia
last year, but the conservative and;solid
growth of the business interests was of
8 most gratifying character, as shown
by the annual report of the Secretary
of State. During the year twelve new
steam railroads and three slectric lines
were chartered, the fifteen roads having
a combined mileage of 1,380 miies, and
capital stock of upwards of $17,000,000.
During the same period fifty new State
banks were chartered, bringing the to
tal number for the State up to 451. The
capital of the new banks was $1,830,000.
New insurance companies to the num
ber of twelve were chartered and au
thorized to engage in business in the
State. Such facts as these show that
the State is forging steadily ahead on
the road of progress and prosperity.
