No Cause to Fear.
The Southern people have no cause to
fear Radical vengeance. It is true that
party has the majority in Congress, but
the Executive sides with us. The Con
gress, unaided, cannot confiscate. That
body must have the co-opcration of the
Judicial and Executive branches before
it can accomplish anything. Again : we
should not fear them, tho Radicals, be
cause a majority of one million in the
nation is against them, and if they resort
to war the Conservatives will crush them.
What would the world say of a Gen
eral who, having largely superior num
bers, should surrender to bis adversary
because lie had met with a slight defeat ?
The verdict would bcmnaniinous that he
was unworthy of a command. So would

Ma. Editor: In your last issue, von briefly
called the attention of the public to the above
announcement. In your next you propose
publishing a more lengthy article, presenting
Judge Harvey’s claims to public favor. In
connection with this we desire to record an
incident in the public life of that gentleman,
not mentioned ir? tbe article referred to.
After ihe close of the late war. Judge II.

represent them in the State Corfventioii; Af j

H dtations of his friends,- be published a brief
history of th* doings of that body. At the
close of bis article be made an appeal to the
wealthier citizens of Floyd to raise a perma
nent fund for the relief, support a«d education
of the indigant widows and orphans of those'
who had fallen in the war. He proposed to
be on a of twenty who would bind himself to
contribute One Hundred Dollars every year for
that purpose. This would have raised a fund
of Two Thousand Dollars annually for the
county. Had this proposition been accepted
it would have been a lasting blessing and ben-
fit to that worthy class of people. We men
tion this incideaj simply to show that our
friend Judge H., even when seeking no office,
has had the- good of our people at heart, and
from our knowledge of his character, believe
him fully competent to discharge the respon
sible duties of the office sought at the hands
of his fellow-citizess. [2t.] * *
