A Noble act of Executive Clemency.
The. parole granted Jefferson Davis some
months ago, giving him- the privilege of the
grounds of the Fortress during the day, has
been extended, through Executive clemency,
iii removing all surveillance over him and tlie
guards in his rooms in Carroll Hall at night.
Instructions to this effect have been sent from
Washington to Gen. Barton, commandant <-f
the fort, divesting Mr. Davis’ imprisonment of
anything like severity, and paving the way, it
is generally presumed for hi,s final parole and
release. 'The guard's over Him, both during the
day and right, have been removed, and he nov
enjoys his liberty perfectly untrammelled, and
every possible means of comfort and pleasure
while held as a prisoner in the fort. It is said
he lias expressed great gratification at this in

residence with Mrs. Davis in the casemates as
signed him shortly after his arrival here.

The Exhibition.
hast Friday a small party in search of fun,
concluded to attend Pittman's exhibition, and
after a lively ride of some ten miles, we fouud
ourselves at Emory Academy. The shades of
night were just settling on the environs of
that classic spot, and an assembly, interesting
in the great variety of its composition, and
remarkable for the lively picture it presented,
bad congregated to witness the performance
and enjoy the magnificent entertainment ot
that delectable evening. Yes, there was the
immense throng, conveniently condensed be
neath a small arbor, and crowded into half
wats, which they courteously and liberally
shared with equally interested but less fortu
nate frieuds. AYe at once endeavored to
follow the example already set, but were una-
'oulably scattered iii the effort: which, hoW-
tv «r, was •• all for the best,” as it gave us both
a side and front view of the stage and orcues-
:r a. In a few minutes all grew calm aud
breathed softly, and every heart began beating
with delight, iii joyful anticipation of a merry-
tune—when lo! the curtain rises. Suddenly
und simultaneously eager eyes are bent upon
the stage, feasting on theatrical decorations
which were charmingly original,- and whose
scenic effect was admirably commensurate
with the resources of that rural vicinity.
The Exhibition begins, and the dramatic,
tragic aud comic plays, charades, conundrums
and spirit-stirring music, all conspire to render
tise stage attractive aud enliven t-hc inratuated
spectators. Our whole souls weresoou wnrpt
in joy, and most heartily did wc applaud tlie
little girls aud boys, who never failed to ac
quit themselves with brilliant success. The
costume* of the several actors were “rich,
not gaudy, and suited to the occasion. How
ever, we will leave this description to the
ladies, w ho think it no task to analyze a toilet
11 a single glance, from bounet to shoes, or
from hat to boots. AY C w m uot distinguish
any character as pre-eminently successful, but
all ‘-acted well their part,” and were so self-
iassessed and entered the various plays with
such zest aud animation that it uo \ 0 y; v j, a d
a pleasing influence upon the enthused assem
bly. but did credit to the actors themselves,
w hose happy hearts overflowed with sportive
mirth and thrilling amusement.
We think our Newnan friends realized more
pleasure than they- anticipated; for the loud 1

A Nev/and Grand Epoch in Medicine!
l>r. Maggikl is the founder of a new Medical
System! The quantitarians, whose vast inter
nal doses enfeeble the stomach and paralyze
the bowels, must give precedence to the man
who restores health and appetite, with from
one to two of his extraordinary Pills, and cures
tlie most virulent sores with a box or so of bis
wonderful and all healing Salve. These two
great specifics of the Doctor are fast superce
ding all the stereotyped nostrums of the day.
Extraordinary cures by Maggicl s Rills and
Salve Inivc opened the eyes of the pfibl.c to
the inefficiency of the (so* called) remedies c-f
others, and itpon which people have so long
blindly depended. Maggiel’s Pills are not of
the class that arc swallowed by Ihe dozen, and
of which every box full taken creates an abso
lute necessity for another. One or two of
Maggiel’s Pills suilie.es to place the bowels In
pcrlU-t order, tone the stomach, create an ap
petite; and render the spirits light and buoy
ant! There is uo griping: and no reaction in
the form of constipation. It" the liver is affec
ted, its functions are restored ; and if the ner
vous system is feeble, it is invigorated. This
last quality makes the medicines very desira
ble for the wants of delicate females. Ulcer
ous and eruptive diseases arc literally extin
guished by the disenfectant power of Maggiel’s
Salve. Iii fact, it is here announced that Moy-
