to submit cheerfully to the tyrant who rules it
wickedly and unjustly is contrary to justice
and human reason. So long, ^hen, as England
oppresses Ireland so long will Irishmen hate
England and pray for her overthrow, and it
will not be in the heart of man to condemn
them. These truths are applicable to move
than one nation.
Desgning men, however, will bike advantage
of the noble impulses of man’s nature, and

Impeachment.
The movement to impoach the President
does not meet with favor from tlie Radical
leaders at home. Many of the party journals
have spoken out plainly and informed Congress
that there is no popular demand for impeach
ment, and the people’s servants could be better
employed in devising ways and means for re
lieving the people of burdensome taxation,
than wasting their breath on this subject. The
scheme is denounced as a foolish one, and the
dropping of it is advised. The wise ones of
the Radicals foresee clearly that its continued
agitation will not only involve the ruin of the
party, but the country also. ’1 lie partial ac
tion of Congress has already had marked effect
upon the securities of the Government. Eu
ropean capitalis are becoming alarmed, and an
sending large amounts of U. 8. bonds to this
country to sell for a commodity, the value of
which does not depend upon the wisdom or
insanity of Congressional action.
The Radicals at AVashiugtou have taken
upon themselves the responsibility of a meas
ure that is more troublesome than was at first
supposed. AA’e learn from our exchanges that
already prayer-meetings are being nightly held,
and, if the truth was known, we do not doubt
that their petitions are more urgent and earn
est to be forgiven for impeachment than for
sin. Pray on. If Gtxl will blot out the other
crimes of which you have been guilty, your
pi lances for pardon for almost any wrong are
good. It is true you have Incited others to
devastate the States of the South, and destroy
the property of their citizens—it is true you
have rejoiced at the shedding of human blood,
and deemed sweet music the wail of the widow
and orphan—it is true you have not done ugto
others as you would they should do unto you
—it is true that you have borne false witness
against your neighbor; still, for all these
crimes, and that of impeachment, too, you
way be pardoued. Pray on.
