A long ad happy life to them, say we,
Business Judge 1 nderwood dis
patched business so rapidly, that
about] one hundred cases, many of
which had been on the d< ckets for
years, were disposed of at our Superior

Judge Underwood, we think, would
entiiely clear out dockets of old, cases.
We. and the farmers are glad of it,
Messrs. Arnold & Cole have made a
step towards erecting a Cotton Gin in
this place for the coming season.—

DINES
Resnectfully inscribed to Miss J,,,*.
BT WILLIE,
When fate, my love, shall bid us part,
In friendship may we sever;
Let memory then entrance thy heart,
Let love abide forever.
In union may our spirits move,
Enjoying equal love:
And may we to each other prove,
None less than those above.
Divided may we never be,
Far though we be apart;
Let comforts from sweet numory,
Our inmost souls exhort.
Betlaiate to me the same
Eternal weight of love,
Nor think that all the hosts of fame,
Can cause my heart to rove.
Sternal be the happy thought
That burn within my breast;
Thy name can never be forgot,
’Till death shall bid me rest.
And if in pleasing converse sweet,
Our hours no more may flee ;
Say. if on earth no more we meet,
Wilt thou rememner me?
No time can .change my Arm regard,
Nor banish thoughts of thee;
And I shall feel a proud reward,
If thou’lt rerae nber mo.

Grand Jury Presentments*
Campbell Superior Court, )
August Term, 1873. f
We, the Grand Jury drawn and em
pannelled fertile said term cf the cour*,
beg leave to submit the following pre
sentments through our various com
mittees :
We have examined the records arid
books of the Ordinary, Clerk, Tax Col
lector, Tax Receiver ana County Trees*-
urer, and find them kept in a neat and
business like manner. W'e find the
public buildings in a good condition
except the jail, which needs some re
pairs such as iron bars, etc.
We recommend tbe to col
ect such rents as be thinks proper for
the rooms of the Court-house, except
I those occupied by the county officers
that are entitled to rooms in said Court
house, and pay over the said rents to
the county Tieashrer.
We have examined the dockets of
the Notaries Public and Justice of the
Peace of the different districts so fir
as was presented to us. We regret to
have to report in default the following
named officers, to-wit : ,T. B. Blalock,
Notary Put lie of the 731 district;
Scott Campbell, J. P. 731 district ; B.
A. Camp, N. P. 1165 district, dockets
not exhibited ; A. Z Minims, J. P. 494
diclrii t ; J. L. Newborne, J. P 1219
district, incorrect by overcharges and
not itemizing ; John Reynolds, J. P.
1134 district, incorrect by excessive
charges; A. J. Bailey, J.’?. 1204, in
correct by not itemizing. The remain
der of the notaries public and jtislice
of the peace duckets we find kept cor
rectly reflecting credit upon said offis
cers.
\7 efind that none of the public roads
in our county have been worked as the
law directs. Wo therefore recommend
the proper authority to issue scire faci
as against the several road commission
ers of said county, requiring them to
come forward at the next term of the
Superior Court, and show cause if any
they have, why said roads have not
been put in good order.
We find the public bridges in good
condition and two under contract to
be built soon. We find our Sheriffs
punctual in the discharge of their sev
eral duties, and we recommend them
to procure the services of bonded bai.-
iffs to assist, them in waiting cn the
Courts. Also we learn with regret
that there are some men in our county
who make it convenient to get upon
the Grand Jury at tv -ry term of tbe
court. \\ e therefore recommend our
Sheriffs to bo more careful in selecting
jurors, as wo want no professional ju -
rors.
\Y e find in the County Treasurer’s
hands $75 55. We find the indebtedness
o' the county to be as follows, to-wit, :
Balance on Court-lioueo $3,501) OCI
Interest on same 367 50
Commissions ot Tax Collector, Tax
Receiver nrnl C.-unly Treasurer... 483 43
Paupers and commission cn same .. 2,000 (10
Juries and 'commission 1 2<s(i 75
Jail fees and other expenses 831 05
53.048.73
We find in the above amount 8449 55
expenses of 1872 that war left uu aid.
i h re are some out standing debts
against the county, the amounts we
are unable to arrive at.
We recommend the Ordinary to levy
a tax sufficient to pay the indebted
ness of the county. As the duties of
the Inferior court devolve upon the
Ordinnary, we therefore, recommend
the Ordinary to present an itemized ac
count of the labors of said office to the
committee on finance, and il approved
by said comini tee, we recommend the
County Treasurer to pay said account
according to the fees laid down in Ir
win’s revised Cod
We recommend the Coun’y Treasur
er to pay to the Clk. of the Supr. Couit
$25 for stationery, extra service &c-
As D. P. White, Sheriff has an item
ized account for extra services to the
rand Jury, we recommend the Ordi -
nary to issue an order on the County
Treasurer for $66 50 in favor of said
sheriff for extra services.
We find a fi fa in the hands of the
sheriff against William Austin, former
Treasurer for $197.27 principal, said
fi fa should have been paid long since,
we, therefore, recommend the proper
officer to proceed with a rule against
the sheriff
\\ e heiehy constitute and appoint
Levi Ball,iid, JP. Bi-avers, M. L. Yates
and J. W. Heck, a finance committee,
to go forward and examine and inspect
by the next term of the Superior Court,
the officer’s papers, books, records, ac
counts and vouchers of the Court of
Ordinary, Clerk of the Superior Court,
County Treasurer and Sheriff’s offices,
and to make a full and complete re
port of the condition of the records,
finances disbursements and condition
of the several records and offices to the
succeding Grand Jury, and for othe
pnrp isrs in said act, said committee to
present their account for services ren
dered to the next Grand Jury, and
said Jury allow them such compensa
tion as they think their services are
worth and recommend the Treasurer to
pay the same.
In taking 1 cave of His Honor, -fudge
Underwood, we tender him our thanks
for the very able and impartial man
i er in which he has presided over our
court ; also, vve thank the Solicitor
General for his courtesy to this body.
Also, Solicitor pro: tem.
We recommend these presentments
to be published in the Palmetto Shield.

intrinsic virtues, and sustained by its re
markable cures. So mild as to be safe and
beneficial to children, and vet so searching
as to effectually purge out the great cor
ruptions of the blood, such as the scrofulous
nd sypliiffia contamination. Impurities,
w diseases that have luvl-ed in the system
(or years, soon yield to this powerful anti
dote, and disappear. Hence its wonderful
cures, many of which a:e publicly known,
of Scrofula, and all scrofulous’diseases,
Ulcers, Eruptions, and eruptive dis
orders of the skin. Tumors, Uiotelses,
Koii.-b Piuijiles, Pustules, Sores, St.
Anthony's Fire, Rose or Erysipe
las, Tetter, Salt lilicum, Scald
Head, King-worn!, and internal Ul

and Liver. It also cures other coin
plaints, to which it. would not seem especi
ally adapted, such as Dropsy, Dyspep
sia, Fits, Neuralgia, Heart Disease,
Female Weakness, Debility, and
Leucorrhoca, when they are manifesta
tions of the scrofulous poisons.
It is an excellent restorer of health and
stj-ength in the Spring. By renewing the
appetite and vigor of the digestive organs,
it dissipates the depression and listless lan
guor of the season. Even where no disorder
appears, people feci hotter, and live longer,
for cleansing the blood. The system moves
on with renewed vigor and anew lease of
life.
