](y special invitation we nil (’tided a
meeting of the citizens of the Fifteenth
District, at Nankin, on last Saturday.
Sufficient notice had not I.eon given and
I litre foie the gathering was not as large
as expected, The lew, however, wlu>
were present, wo found very c nth twins
tic in the advocacy ,ol Democratic prin
ciples, and zottlyua champions of our no
ble standard bearers, SuYjmtm uml Jli.aim.
The meeting was organised by.calling
kip. W. l?BiuilS(ini:u> to the l.luiir, ami
selecting Mu. .lambs Bkntt.ky Secretary.
The Chairman in a few pointed remarks,
explained the object of the meeting, and
announced the speakers present lor tin'
occasion. First in order was Mr. I*. L
Fh i.BS, who in consideration of the mea
gre assemblage waived the privilege ex
tended, and suggested that ( apt. .lambs
1,. Mosr.rsv, el Illacksl.ear, former
citizen of Brooks) be permitted to grati
fy the desire of his former neighbors and
friends, and address them on the issues
of the day.
Gapt. Moseuy; (tievegtakcji at a dis,
ndvaiilage) promptly responded in liig
usual eloquent and interesting mitmier,
and for some forty minutes held the cn
raptured ears of his audiance with words
of wisdom, and sound polilcal reasoning
There wero no converts to make, but
weapons of warfare wero furnished his
hearers so they might go forth to the po
litical field and labor undci-standingly for
the advancement, if correct principles,.
.budge James 11. llcnikU foil awed in a
biy i address, which was well and favor
ably received. The Judge is doing yeo
man service for the Democracy, and on
this occasion, if there hud been present
u doubting voter, Ids dear logic and un
answerable argument would have se
cured bis voluntary entrance into the
Democratic Hock.
S. T. Kinusbkmiy, Esq,, was next called
upon, but briefly declined making .a
a speech on tlm occasion. Our friend
KlNtistiEßßY can make n r/utxZ speech and
the next crowd we catch, him in v. dl
take care lie is not let oil’ so easily.—
Lawyer's should never be excused flow
speaking, when called upon; they ate al
ways ready with limber tongues.
After the speaking it was suggested,
and most ia.-ai lily approved that a Con
servative Gluli be organized at Nankin,
and a meeting for said purpose will be
held on next Saturday.
It will also be perceived, by a notice
elsewhere that the Democracy of the
Fifteenth District propose furnishing a
barbecue on Saturday, the l'Jth, and the
citizens of the entire county arc invited.
Thus the good work goes bravely on !
And the determined champions of (''in
stitutional Liberty are resolved not to
cease their labors, until every man w hite
and black, within the limits oi Brooks,
are enrolled under the banner of Suvsna a
and Bi.alr.

We were gratified to meet in our town
on Saturday, our old friend and General
Agent, Gapt. .T. L. Mosixkv, at present i
a resident of Blucksheur. Gapt. M. ar
rived on the eastern train Friday even
ing, and by invitation addressed the j
citizens, in the Gourt house, the same:
night, on the great issues of the day.
Unfortunately wo wero absent from town
and did not hear the GaptaiiFs speech,;
but those who wa re present, speak of it ;
ns one of his happiest efforts,, Ife is a
fluent, eloquent and graceful speaker,
and can end will accomplish much good
during the present struggle with Radi

i >t> l l l , Ire suggested by the Democratic

the First Congressional District.
The suggestion is accepted on behalf
o( the Demeeracy of Brooks, and this
County will be fully represented at*dbe
time and place designated.
It is true that we would- have prefer
red that the Convention assemble at
Suvn.nmji, owing to the lai't, a larger
representation of the District could be
induced to attend at that point ; but per
sist anee in our preference might create
contusion, and therefore wo cheerfully
yield for the sake of harmony.
'County meetings should bo promptly
held, and delegates selected, whii will a!
\tmid in .person- and not'by proxy. It is
an important Convention and by its wise
deliberation we hope to elect a white
man’s Representative from the First Dis

Tho Prospoct in Georsia.
A correspondent of the New York
Herald sums itp the political situation iu
Georgia as follows:
In 1860 Georgia'poHed!nearly one hun
dred and fen thousand white votes. As
every white person in this state is en
franchised the probabilities are that one
hundred and fifteen thousand white votes
will he east next November. Os this
number Grant and Colfax m»y receive
fifteen thousand, certainly not more. It
will therefore be seen that one hundred
thousand white men will vote for the
Democratic candidate, and if to this he
r; i r m >iv thousand negro
vote-, which will assuredly be cast the
san , way it becomes evident that the
Radicals cannot carry Georgia. They
know and admit this fact, but they hope
that Congress will meet next month and
order nnns to be distributed among the
carpet fug governed States. Os course
these weapons will be placed solely in
hands of Radicals, who will attempt to
control the election by force. If this is
attempted a bloodly war of political par
ties will follow in the South, and tho
poor negro dupes will got the worst of
it.
