The campaign for 1872 will he a gigantic and
convulsive atrujap le. Nutidng like It lias been
since 1840, ond in the moinentious and fundam**n
! fal character of the issue iuvolved, we trust
I nothing like it need occur again in the history
jof the Pniled States. We ho])<‘ it will result ifi
j the re-estahlitbment ofthe faifndatioii principles
of civil and personal freedom and its time-bon
ored muniments of the local independence ol
the States—of the freedom of the ballot- of the
impartiality of nubile justice of the integrity ol
Kxecutive administration—of the inviolability of
the habeas corpus* of the triumph of law and
the. Constitution and in the complete victory o'
peace, concilliaiion, national harmony and Iran j
quility over the demon of discord, nsurpation,
tyranny, hatred, amd the great moral and nee
tional war proclaimed by Grant, Morten and
Butler.
In Georgia, however it may be elsewhere, the
result ot this contest is not at all problematical:
but an intense and overwhelming interest will
nevertheless be felt it) its progress and result, and
