QUITMAN, FEBRUARY 28, 1873.
Death of a Ytmns Lady-
Mlas Sai.i.ie W.ade a, niece ol otir es
teemed fellow-citizen, Judge Elijah
Wadi, died at the nsideuca of Mr..Chop
man, in Qaitinan, in last Monday night.
Miss \Yado was an interesting and
charming young lady, and ten days pre
vious to her demise, was in the posscs
sioo of perfect health and happiness; hut
the Angel of Death issued his inexora
ble summons, and she Ims appeared be
fore the Great throne of the King of
Kings.
“Whom the gods love die young,” was said of
yore,
And many Deaths do they escape by this :
The death of friends, and that which slays even
more,
The death of Friendship, hove, Youth, all that is,
Except mere breath; and since the silent shore
Awaits at last even those who longest miss
The old archer’s shafts, perhaps the early grave
Which men weep over, may be meant to save.

Our Representative —Our efficient,
zealous and pet severing Representative
in the General Assembly, Capt. James H.
Hunter, returned home on last Friday
morning, and although in good health
he bore evidence that his Inborn at At
lanta wire other than refreshing to the
physical man. During the entire ses
sion Capt. Hunter was always in his
seat, and watchful of the interests of
not only his immediate constituents, but
of tho entire State. State assistance to
enable the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad
Company to seek an outlet on the Gulf,
was a speciality with the Captain, and
he worked night and day for the consu
■nation of said enterprise; and although j
the measure was defeated, he is stiil !
hopeful of lulurc efforts. Brooks county
is fortunate in the possession of so wor
thy * Representative as Capt. Hunter.
May he long live, and we trust at an
•arly day represent our people in a more :
important field of labor.

j CHANGE OF SCHEDULE.
By reference to tl.e advertisement in
to-day’s Banner, it will be seen, that to
accommodate the traveling pubic, two
passenger trains w ill leave Savannah
daily—morning and evening—over the
A. &G. Railroad. Passengers for points
west of Lawton, however, must take the
evening train; ns tile morning train is
more especially intended to accommo
date the travel to and from Florida.
This arrangement will prove a great
convenience to the public, ns it will do
away with tho disagreeable delay at
Lawton and Live Oak, Florida, which
lias been the cause of considerable com
plaint.

Many years ago, an editor in Connec
ticut was notified by his foicroan, that a
certain quantity of copy was required to
fill up his columns. News was scarce,
•nd the editor concluded to resort to the
sensational, so he ordered the foreman
to "murder a child at Rock-port. ’ Ihe ar
ticle was prepared, the type set, and a
few additional lines of copy was needed.
The editor was notified of the fact;“have
you kilhd the child at Rockport?” was
the inquiry. “Yea!” responded the fore
man, “and three lines more ere needed.”
“Then contradict the murders" was the
happy response of the editor.
We loerc not in a similar dilemma to
the Connecticut editor, two weeks ago,
when wc announced the death of a girl,
by the name of Clifford Pucker, in a
swamp near Boston. The fact of her
death was generally conceded, and the
particulars ot finding her body were
communicated to us by responsible par
ties. Nevertheless, on Friday last, the
frail au 1 erring C ifiord Pocket was per
ambulating the streets of Quitman, artel
positively declaring that she did not die
in tbe swamp.” It may be so, but then
whose body (if any ) was it found at
tbe locality designated ?

! A couple of Colored citizens, residing
!on Mr. Dawson Wade's plantation in
this county, on last Saturday tested tbe
merits of cold steel on each other. One
was slightly, and the other seriously
wounded, the knife penetrating the lung.
Dr. Jeers attended the parties, and it is
possible that both may recover to repent
their folly. A woman (the wife of one
of the party,) was the causi of the trou
ble—shy allowing herself to be enticed
away from the house of her husband.

The encouragement of local enterpris"
is a question frequently discussed, but
not as often practiced. The Factory in
Quitman was built up by local enterprise,
and all good cit zam wish it prosperity,
and will contribute cheerfully to that
end. The managers of said Factory, we
presume, are also advocates for the en
couragement of local enterprise of every
character—but, f r some reason, if $2 50
worth of printing is needed f>r the Com
pany, an order is sent abroad for tbe
same. To preach is one tiling—to prac

THE SAVANNAH DATLY NEWS.
The Savannah Daily Mounixu News is ac
knowledged by the press and people to be the
best daily paper south of Louisville ami east of
New ()i loans. Carrying with it the prestige and
reliability of ago, it has all the vigor and vitality
of youth, and its enterprise as a gatherer of Him
the latest and freshest news has astonished its
contemporaries and met the warm approbation
of the public.
During the year 1873, no expense of time, la
bor, and money will be spent to keen the Morn

jonrnalk-nf. and to deserve the flattering encomi

lias, as yet, been no serious attempt made to ri

that the reader in search of the latest intelligence
always looks to the Moiinixo News. The tele
graphic arrangements of the paper are such that
the omissions made by the general press reports
are promptly and reliably suplied by its special
correspondents.
The Morning News has lately been enlarged
to a thirty six column paper, and this broad
scope of type embraces, daily, everything of in
terest that transpires in thedoma nos Litefutine,
Art, Science. Politics, Religion, and General In
telligencc: giving to the reader more and better
digest matter than any other paper in the fate
It, is. perhaps needless to speak of the politics
of the Morninii News. For years and years—in
deed, since its establisement- it has been a re
presentative Southern paper, and from that
Lime to the present, In all conjunctures, it has
•onsisie tly and persistently maintained Demo
•r.itic Stale Rights principles, and labored, with
iii ardor and devotion that know no abatement,
;o promote and preserve the interests and honor
if the South.
The special features of the Mojixixg News will
>c retained and improved upon during the ensu
ng year, and several new attractions will bo
id (led.
The Georgia News items, with their quaint
md pleasant humor, and the epitome of Florida
tffairs. will be continued during the year. The
ocal department will be. as it has been for tfc*
>ast year, the most complete and reliable to l*o
