Cossvilie and Cartersvilie, but expect to

' -City Improvement*.
We are glad to notice additional evi
dences of the increasing prosperity of
our town. In the Southern part of the
city, Messrs. J. G. Yeiser, J. M. Farell,
C. 6. Force and Dunlap Scott, are build
ing neat and tasty dwelling houses, and
Mr. C. H. Smith, on Barbecue Hill, isjust
completing another.. All of which will
groatly improve the appoarance of Rome.
We are also progressing in a business
point of view. We learn that Col. Shor
ter intends putting up a brick store on
the lot above Messrs. J. E. Berry k Co.;
Mr. Charles II. Smith, another next
above Mr. Pitner, and Mr. Smith and
■•Mr. N. J. Omberg, still another on tije
lot adjoining Messrs. R. S. Norton &
Son. Mr. 0. B. Eve, is .pushing forward
energetically with his three story stone
building, on the river bank opposite tbe
Etowah House. Whon finished he in
tends entering immediately, upon the
manufacture of those parts of carriages,
buggies, wagons and other vehicles,
which arc now brought from the North
—such as felloes, spokes, bubs, Ac., and
he will have in connection with liis
manufactory, a complete carriage furn
ishing establishment. So that those who
wish to purchase vehioles of any kind
can get thorn mado in Rome, without
sending beyond. Mason k Dixon’s lino
for them. We hope ho will meetivith
that encouragement his energy merits.
