Pen and Ink Portrait of Grace Green
wood. .
Grace, who has been on & lecturing
tour in the West, is thus sketched by "an
Indiana editor:
Height rather below than above the
average. Complexion dark. Hair, by
gaslight, raven black and wavy, with a
natural propensity to curl. Face rather
long, with a high, beautifully moulded
forehead, and twin arched ebon brows.
Very large brown or black eyes, capable
of great power of expression. Nose
large, straight, and well formed; cheeks
just nlittle thin; mouthsmall, but; the
lips a trifle too thin, the most pleasant
feature of her face; chin well devel-
T d, and indicative of dashing energy
character. Like Halleck’s Fanny,
Grace was prettier once than now, her
ago approximating—if we may venture
on so' delicate a subject—forty, though
she is by no means destitute of attract
tiou.' But will warrant that twenty
years ago she was a dashing, imperioui
beauty, the wild light of whose eye
Aj$yea the deuce with masculin
hearts. She was dressed last evenin
in block silk. An unpleasant lisp ma:
the effect of her speaking nt first, bi
soon ceases to attract as she proceeds.
Wc could detect no strong minded in-
cations, either in her lecture, dress,
manner, but should judge her to be
liighly intellectual, accomplished, ohi
sensible lady.‘

An extraordinary affair is related in
Frankfort journal: “A female, after
being twenty-one years in the service iff

walking some distance, she met two
gendarmes, and after telling theta that
she had tlije money in qxeeboa to'.her

set in, she might be robbed in a Wood
through which she had to pass; but tha
