National Democratic Convention'.
It is likoly the balloting fora candi
date will commonco in Charleston to-
day- A review of the component parte
of that body may not, therefore, be un
interesting. Three hundred and three
delegates are entitled to seats in th&
Convention, so that under the two-thirds
rule two hundred and two will be neces
sity to nominate. This' two-thirds rule,
by tho way, has prevailed in every Dem
ocratic National Convention since 1844.
It was insisted upon by the Southern
delegates in 1844, with a view of defeat
ing Martin Van Buren, and it accomp
lished the ottjeot. A number of tho

rogation, provided the ohance of getting
two-thirds for Douglas looked unpromis

mill sort of business, up hill all the wav

that peculiar machine, converting him
self into a blind horse, and thus plunges
forward, with irregular steps, apparent
