phia American:
“Talking about Tommy, thislittlo ge
nius is hard to be seen. The ladies
somehow or other, entirely monopolize
him. The boarders at the Continental
take him to their rooms, and altogether
Master Tommy has a good time of it.
He wears at his girdle the daguerreotype
of a Washington lady, and displays it
with considerable pride. For a pet—
particularly a lady’s pet—Tommy is ra
ther too large, and carries in his eyes a
style of leer that is suggestive of any
thing but modesty. He speaks Eng

very well, and is well enough behaved
but is rather an odd style of pet, take
him any way you ohoose."
