CAN Libxbty.—In the last volume ft
Randall**‘‘Life of Jefferson,” the foi
lowing anecdote is given:
While the question of Independence
was before Congress, it had its meetings
near a livery stable. Its members wore
short breeches and silk stockings, and
handkerchief in hand, they were dili
gently employed- in Jashing the flies
From their legs. So very vexatious was
this annoyance and to so great an im-
natience did it arouse the suffarere, that
it hastened, if it did not aid,It in induc
ing them to promptly affix their signa
tures to the great document which
gave birth to an empire Republic.
The anecdote I had -from Mr. Jeffer
son, at Montieello, who seemed to en
joy it very much, as well as to give
credit to the influence of the flies, lie
told it to mo with much glee, and
seamed to retain a vivid recoiieotiou of
the severity of an atttack from which
the only relief was signing the paper
and flying from the scene.

TkRl COGGSWELL’B New Medical Salt
I 9 instead of being a remedy for all ills,
has control over but one ill, has but one aim,
and accomplishes but one thing, to wit: Sub
dues Inflamatory Diseases—whatever be its
form or locality, whether in the bead, throat,
abdomen, extremities or skin.
The peculiar excellence of the New Medi
cal Salt is, that without the useless loss of
blood aud strength, it effectually cures In-
flamatory Diseases (no others) by producing
•n equilibrium of all the fluids in the body,
tho want of which is the solo Cause of in
flammation.
Invalids, Tako Notice!—The following
forms which the unbalanced fluids assume
and many not hero mentioned, that have
more or less fever and p tin, are easily sub
dued by the New Medical Salt as fire is ex
tinguished by water, to wit: Brain Fever,
Headache, Rush of Blood to the Head anil
Heart, Fits, Inflamed Eyes, Ears and NoBe,
Canker, Neuralgia, Spinal Affections, Ery

and it frequently extends to the top of the
shoulder, and is sometimes mistafam for at

affected .with loss of appetite and sickness,
the bowels in general arc costive, sometime*

with pain, accompanied with a dufi, heavy
sensation in the back part. There fs gene
rally a considerable loss of memory, accom-
>anied with a painful sensation of having
eft undone something which ought to have
been done. A slight, dry cough is some
times an attendant. The patient complains
of weariness and debility; he is easily startled,
his feet are cold or burning, and he com-
ilains of a prickly sensation of the skin;
us spirits are low; and although he is satis
fied that exercise would be beneficial to him,
yet he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts every
remedy. Several of the above symptoms
attend the disease, but cases have occurred
where few of them existed, yet examination
of the body, after death, has shown the^
liver to have been extensively deranged.
